AI Review Summary

Based on recent customer reviews, CompCare Medical Scheme draws heavy criticism around administration rather than cover itself. The dominant grievance is unpaid accumulated savings refunds for resigned members, with waiting periods stretched past written commitments, repeated requests for documents already submitted and consultants leaving mid-query. Members also report unanswered emails, being transferred between departments, difficult cancellations, surprise contribution increases, plan changes without consent and declined hospital or authorisation claims. A satisfied minority praises fast preauthorisation, quick chronic medication registration, smooth claim payments and named consultants who answer calls personally and resolve issues immediately.

Bad Service

I am deeply disappointed and frustrated by the manner in which my matters have been handled by CompCare. The delays, inconsistent information and lack of ownership from the call centre have been extremely concerning. I app**** in May to add my newborn son to my medical aid, only to be informed four months later that the application could not be processed and that I must submit a new one. My son remains without medical cover, which is extremely concerning should he require medical attention. I am also still disputing the rejection of my hospital bill based on the allegation that I failed to disclose my pregnancy. I maintain that I was unaware of the pregnancy at the time, and the scan dates support my position. I requested my call recordings in May and am still waiting for them. I urgently request senior management intervention and a clear resolution to both matters. I have exhausted the normal channels and need someone with the authority to take ownership and resolve this matter urgently.

Mrs. H. Liebenberg

Very furious at Comp Care, we were a member with them and also changed over to another Medical Aid 2024. To date 2027 they have handed me over for money owing to them stipulating they have tried by "only" emailing me then regards to this matter, when I approached them why they never mentioned this to my Broker when cancelling in 2024 or trying to contact my Broker in this matter to get hold of me as they could not via email (stipulating to them that the email they have used had falling away) I had no proper feedback, poor customer service received from Team Leader Phumzile Msomi. The fact that I am handed over due to a lack of communication effort from 2024 has me mad, it is actually not about the few rands they are fussing about come to think of it but actually the way they have gone about this, not even to state that the one email they have send in 2024 stated the money was owing to me but in "their error" the email was changed over to me owing. Their commination, following up tactics, customer service is very poor and i would not recommend anyone using their scheme my point of view.

Incorrect outstanding membership at CompCare

My wife was a main member at CompCare and I was a beneficiary. We then moved over to a new medical aid due to lower rates and bad service from Compcare. Months later I started receiving sms' that I owe them money. I don't know how seeing as I was never the main member???? I phoned the call centre and the consultant said that he could not see any outstanding amount on his side linked to me. I then made contact with CompCare using their WhatsApp number - according to the WhatsApp bot there are 4 people registered on their system with MY ID number. My wife has sent an e-mail to a lady at CompCare called Kensani asking her what is going on, but got no response. CompCare has NEVER called, or e-mailed my wife regarding any outstanding amounts, but I, the beneficiary receive sms'.

Beyond Disappointed – Zero Follow-Up and Zero Solutions from CompCare

We are deeply disappointed and frustrated by the total lack of accountability from CompCare. Following up on previous issues has yielded absolutely no positive outcome—in fact, there has been virtually no meaningful follow-up from their team at all. When you sign up for medical scheme cover, you expect basic communication and resolution when an issue or request is raised. Instead, we have been met with total silence and indifference. Leaving members in the dark with unresolved requests is completely unacceptable service. Save yourself the headache and stress—seek a scheme that actually values its members and follows through on basic customer care. Absolutely appalling experience.

SAVINGS REFUND......STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Comp Care Team I am writing to follow up on my savings refund query, as I have not yet received an update regarding it's status. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with an update on the progress of my request and a CLEAR estimated timeframe for resolution. This matter has been pending for over 5 months, and I would appreciate your prompt attention. I have sent all the required documents. Last week the response I got from the person that was handling my claim said it has reached the Financial Department and is being processed. Today when I follow up, this person no longer works for the Company. This is completely unacceptable. I paid my contributions on time when I was still a member of the Scheme. I don't understand why it is so difficult to get my savings paid out to me. I look forward to your response and a timely resolution. Kind regards, Andiswa

STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOW HARD CAN THIS BE

Dear Team, I am once again requesting an urgent update regarding my outstanding savings refund. On Monday, 6 July, I was advised that my claim had reached the Finance Department and was ready to be processed. However, when I followed up again this morning, 8 July, I discovered that the individual who has been handling my matter for the past six to seven months no longer works for the company, and I have now been instructed to direct my enquiries to someone else. I find it unacceptable that after waiting more than six months, I am still no closer to receiving my refund. I have continuously followed up, submitted all required documentation, and fulfilled my obligations as a paying member by making all contributions on time. Yet I continue to experience delays, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. I would like to understand why it is proving so difficult to refund money that belongs to me and how much longer I am expected to wait. The level of service I have received has been extremely disappointing and has caused unnecessary frustration. I expect someone to contact me today with a clear explanation and a firm timeline for payment. Should I not receive a response, I will have no option but to escalate this matter further through the appropriate channels. Enough is enough. Kind regards, Peonie

1 Star

1 Star I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from CompCare. My father's CPAP authorisation has been delayed for far too long. We have submitted every document requested, yet every time we believe everything is in order, another request for information follows. There is little meaningful communication, no clear timelines and no sense of urgency, despite the fact that my father has a diagnosed medical condition that requires treatment. As paying members, we expect efficient service and timely assistance, especially when it concerns medically necessary equipment. Instead, the process has been frustrating, repetitive and unnecessarily stressful. I sincerely hope CompCare improves its communication and authorisation processes so that other members do not have to experience the same delays.

********* and unprofessional practices

Eight months later — still waiting for my accumulated savings I left CompCare Medical Scheme at the end of November 2025 to join another medical scheme. At the time of leaving, I had a positive accumulated medical savings balance that was due to be transferred. I was initially advised in writing: “Please be advised that for members that have terminated their membership, the Contributions Department will be responsible for your savings payout. The process takes up to 4 months before they make the payout because of the Medical Schemes Act that states that the providers have 3 months to submit claims after seeing members.” I was asked to provide proof of my new medical scheme membership, my banking details and proof of identity. I submitted all the requested documentation. At the end of January 2026, after I followed up, Richard Ubusi confirmed receipt of my documents and advised me in writing: “As advised in my previous email, we confirm receipt of your completed documents. Please note that the refund will be processed after the applicable waiting period of five (5) months. Accordingly, the accumulated savings will be transferred to **** in April 2026.” From 4 months to 5 months April came and went. The transfer did not happen. My emails and phone calls went unanswered. In mid-May, I eventually received a response requesting proof of membership again, which I submitted. There was then no meaningful response or progress. By mid-June, I was told that the documentation had apparently still not been received. I sent it again on 17 June and receipt was finally confirmed. Today is 4 July 2026. More than seven months have passed since I left the scheme, and more than two months have passed since the date CompCare itself gave me in writing for the transfer. My accumulated savings have still not been transferred, and my emails are once again being ignored. I have been patient and have comp**** with every request made of me. What is particularly frustrating is not only the delay, but the repeated requests for documents already submitted, contradictory timelines, failure to follow through on written commitments, and the ongoing lack of communication. At this point, I find the handling of this matter deeply unprofessional and unacceptable. These are accumulated savings belonging to a former member, and I should not have to spend months repeatedly chasing CompCare for a transfer that they themselves confirmed would take place in April.
