Based on recent customer reviews, Uber in South Africa is described overwhelmingly negatively across every service theme. Customers consistently report unauthorised account deductions, fares far above the accepted quote, and lost or stolen parcels and phones. A recurring theme is the inability to reach a human being, with in-app bots closing tickets before issues are resolved. Isolated praise exists for honest individual drivers rather than the platform itself.
Top Strengths:
- •Delivery Speed & Reliability: Delivery Speed & Reliability (1.0) is the least damaged theme. Some couriers complete collections and drop offs within half an hour, and standard suburban pickups often arrive within the quoted window, though Reserve bookings and Wait and Save frequently fail.

**************** by uber
Uber has started charging subscription fees from my account without my permission. I never agreed to any subscription, yet I was billed regardless. When I tried to leave the platform and deactivate my account, I was shocked that I had to pay before I could do so. This feels unfair and misleading. Customers deserve transparency and the ability to opt in to paid services, not discover charges after the fact. I cannot recommend a service that operates this way.

Uber Drivers *******
am writing to formally escalate a very serious incident concerning my work phone, which I left in an Uber vehicle during a trip in Accra on 13 September 2026. I reported the missing phone to Uber shortly after the trip and requested assistance in contacting the driver. Despite my repeated attempts to obtain assistance, I received no meaningful response or timely contact from the driver. After more than 72 hours, the driver, Joshua Bosu, eventually contacted me. I immediately engaged with him regarding the return of my phone. However, he has denied having the phone or finding it in his vehicle. The vehicle registration provided to me is ***. Given the circumstances, I have now reported the matter to the East Legon Police Station in Accra and provided the relevant information concerning the trip and driver. I expect Uber to fully cooperate with the police investigation and provide any information and records lawfully requested by the authorities. I am also formally requesting that Uber: 1. Immediately investigate the driver and this incident; 2. Preserve all records relating to my 13 September trip, including trip details, driver information, vehicle information, GPS/location records and relevant communications; 3. Confirm whether the driver has been contacted by Uber regarding the missing phone and provide me with the outcome of that investigation; 4. Escalate this matter to the appropriate Uber Ghana management/safety team; 5. Cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service in tracing the phone and establishing what happened after I left it in the vehicle; and 6. Confirm what action Uber intends to take regarding the driver's continued access to the Uber platform while this matter is being investigated. This is not simply a misplaced personal item. The phone is a work device containing important business information, and the circumstances surrounding its disappearance and the driver's subsequent denial are extremely concerning. I have used Uber in good faith and expect the platform to take the safety and integrity of its driver network seriously. The fact that it took more than 72 hours for the driver to contact me, followed by his denial that he has the phone, requires a proper investigation. Please treat this as a formal complaint and escalation. I require a substantive response from Uber management, rather than an automated response or another generic lost-item notification. I have reported the matter to the police and will provide the police with the relevant Uber trip information and communications as required. I expect Uber to cooperate fully and urgently with the investigation.

UBER *****S
Over the last couple days Uber (*** ZAF (Bank reference)) has been deducting R8.50 from my account. This morning they deducted R50 for a service never requested There is no contact number available To stop this I now have to cancel my card and go through the effort of waiting for a new one to arrive There are three scenarios at play here 1. They have had a breach and did not bother to let anyone know 2. They have sold my details to a third party (against POPIA) without consent 3. They are / have active agents (with their knowledge) *****ing peoples money I would recommend using other services like Bolt instead

I am requesting a refund of R19 for my Uber trip on 23 September 2026. When I booked the trip, the fare shown was R15. However, when I arrived at my destination, I paid the driver R34 in cash. After the trip, the Uber receipt showed that R19 had been refunded. I have checked my payment and I did NOT receive this R19 refund. I paid the driver the full R34, so the amount shown as refunded does not match what actually happened. I have not owed Uber any outstanding balance, and I have always paid the amounts charged for my previous rides. Please investigate this trip and check the driver's trip record, the fare charged, and the R19 refund transaction. If Uber's records show that R19 was refunded, please provide proof of where and when that refund was paid. If it was not actually paid to me, please refund the R19 to me. I can provide screenshots of the original fare, the receipt showing the R19 refund, and proof that I paid R34 to the driver. Please resolve this matter and return the R19 that I am owed.
