Terrible and unprofessional

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unprofessional and disrespectful conduct of a nurse on duty at the reception area of Cardiac Ward 2 at Ethekwini Hospital at approximately 20:15. For identification purposes, the nurse appeared to be Indian, had a dark complexion, and was wearing a large red dot on her forehead. My mother is a heart failure patient, and given the seriousness of her condition, this is already an extremely stressful and emotional time for my family. Following my visit, I was instructed to collect some of her soiled clothing to take home. While waiting near the automated entrance with my children, the nurse shouted at me to move away from the door. I acknowledged her instruction and explained that I was simply waiting. Despite this, she continued addressing me in an aggressive and unnecessarily loud manner. I comp**** with her instructions, which can be verified through the hospital's CCTV footage. While the door remained open, my younger child ran inside after seeing his grandmother enter. I immediately went to retrieve him. Although I understand that children may not be permitted in certain areas of the hospital and that my child's actions were inappropriate, this does not justify the nurse's hostile and disrespectful manner of communication. Instead of addressing the situation calmly and professionally, she continued making remarks and arguing with me in front of other people, including raising her eyes at me in a dismissive manner. I eventually asked her why she had not simply closed the door and requested that she stop arguing with me. I also reminded her that her role was not to engage in arguments with patients or their visitors, but to communicate respectfully and professionally. As I was leaving, she made a further remark, stating that children were not allowed there in the first place, using an unnecessarily confrontational tone. What made this incident particularly distressing was the impact it had on my mother. She became upset, started crying, and blamed herself, even going as far as saying that she would rather die. Given her serious medical condition, this confrontation caused unnecessary emotional distress to a patient who should be receiving care and compassion. I am already dealing with the emotional burden of having a seriously ill mother in hospital. The last thing I should have to endure is being spoken to in a demeaning and disrespectful manner by a member of staff. I fully acknowledge the importance of hospital rules and patient safety; however, these rules should be enforced with courtesy, patience, and professionalism. I requested that the nurse call a senior staff member to address the matter. Her response was to tell me to wait because someone was coming. I subsequently waited approximately 20 minutes and eventually had to go downstairs to ask another staff member for assistance in obtaining the attention of a matron. When the matron arrived, she apologised on behalf of the nurse, which I acknowledged. However, while I appreciate the apology, it does not undo the distress and humiliation caused by the incident, nor does it address the need to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. I am requesting that hospital management formally investigate this incident, including reviewing the CCTV footage from the reception area at approximately 20:15, and take the appropriate steps to address the nurse's conduct. I would also appreciate feedback on the outcome of the investigation and what measures will be implemented to ensure that patients and their families are treated with dignity and respect. Healthcare environments are already emotionally challenging, particularly for families with critically ill loved ones. Staff members are expected to uphold professional standards, communicate appropriately, and demonstrate empathy, even when enforcing hospital rules. No family should have to experience additional distress because of the manner in which a staff member chooses to communicate. I trust that this complaint will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately.

I am extremely disappointed with Lenmed's handling of my account ***) I was admitted as an emergency, and Bankmed subsequently approved the admission, yet Lenmed continues to pursue me for over R78,000. I repeatedly requested that my account ber placed on hold while the authorisation issue was being resolved, but my emails have gone unanswered. I also do not understand why my account has been handed over for collection when I have been actively engaging with Lenmed and trying to resolve the matter. I would appreciate urgent intervention and a fair resolution.

Disappointed after consult with ENT

Good Day On the 10th of June I went for my appointment at Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital to see Dr S Ahmed. I had Tonsillitis 10months ago and recovered after seeing my GP aswell taking antibiotics, I then picked up a throat infection and had nasal congestion so I then opt to see an ENT because I was concerned that I wouldn't have wanted to have tonsillitis once again. I go for my appointment on the 10th June waiting for my turn. It was my turn I then go inside and Dr Consults asking few questions etc, I then proceed to go into the room for her to diagnose what seems to be the issue, she then proceeds with a specialized tool checking my ear, nose and throat and picks up mucus in my nasal passage. she then gives a direct option that I should be admitted for 3 days to be on a drip to do test, CT SCANS etc. Me Thinking and very skeptical about this and on top of it there was a shortfall for payment which I feel is a waste for Medical Aid and my gap cover to pay for as I was not happy with my consult because firstly being admitted for something I can first take antibiotics for, I am mobile, I could manage only needed help on taking some sort of medication at first before just given the option to be admitted. She was very lethargic during the consult, sorry but I will not be going to this Dr again or recommend her, A Doctor supposed to have some life in them in order to make the patient feel better! Not forgetting there useless Accounts peopIe based in Brenthurst which my husband had to contact 3 consecutives times within a space of 2 weeks requesting the statement for shortfall to request from Gap Cover but quick to send out that we liable for shortfall, the accounts lady then sends the statement after 5 days (17 June 2026) when received it was wrong, then after 3 days sent in excel, thereafter 5days later sent in pdf with incorrect amounts, we had to basically calculate the amount to let them know what was required and only today 23rd June 2026 it was sent but still incorrect with no amount, thereafter finally sent the correct statement eventually! Come on! Basically looked for an ENT near me and trusted that I would have got a better diagnosis, nothing was done besides few questions asked and a tool which was used which my GP/Physician used aswell, Only after my consult I saw bad reviews on social media, Hello Peter and other platforms. Following the consult I then proceeded to go see my GP/Physician for a second opinion. My Physician consulted and requested me to get a few meds aswell do few blood tests, today I'm feeling so much better and clearly there was no reason for my to be admitted. My complaint is about keeping the right Doctors as this hospital and there name is very big as per my understanding. Because of Doctors like this and certain instances happening at this hospital it puts a bad name on you where as this is supposed to be a convenient yet reliable hospital to use especially staying in the Lenasia area. I would like some sort of feedback on this Thank you

Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital

I am extremely disappointed with the way this hospital handles patient concerns. I have repeatedly raised complaints regarding one of the doctors, yet my concerns have been ignored and not properly acknowledged. A hospital should prioritize patient care, listen to feedback, and address legitimate complaints professionally. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite. There seems to be very little concern for patients’ wellbeing, while financial interests appear to take priority over quality care and accountability. Patients place their trust in healthcare professionals and deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. I hope the hospital management takes complaints seriously in the future and works towards improving patient care and communication. This hospital overall should be investigated.

Lenmed Randfontein is not willing to learn and do right even in 2026

--- [Lenmed Hospital Randfontein Peads ward]* First let me thank Dr Busi Ngcono she is a blessing, the night shift staff that was there 11.06.26 and the night shift that came in 12.06.2026 they were a breath of fresh air a horrible day. The catering company your food is nutritious and delicious thank you. I’m writing to share my extremely poor experience during my recent stay at the hospital. The main issues were: 1. *Nursing Staff Attitude & Responsiveness* (DAY SHIFT STAFF WORKING ON 11.06.26-13.06.26) Nurses appeared to have zero tolerance and showed little concern for our children patients. When the drip alarm was beeping, no one came to check it unless I went to fetch them myself. It feels unsafe when basic alerts are ignored especially where kids are concern 2. *Facilities & Hygiene Not Maintained* - THE hot *water dispenser was filthy* and unusable. - The *kitchen utensils were dirty*, making it unsafe to use the area. - Not enough sleeper couches for us since we sleep over with our kids. - The TV remotes were broken and the TV couldn’t be used I had to make a plan on how to switch it on. 3. *General Lack of Care* The overall impression was that staff didn’t care about patient comfort or safety. Simple things like explaining why alarms were going off weren’t done. This made a stressful situation worse. Parents expect basic standards of hygiene, working facilities, and responsive care, especially in a hospital. I don't wish anyone that horrible experience.
