City Power has an option to press 7 for a callback. How convenient. Except whoever calls back, lets it ring once and then rings off, deliberately, so the convenience of requesting a callback is immediately negated!

Issue: No power supply yet again to the church yard after repairs were completed and mind you it’s only the church yard and the yard next door. After repairing the LV feeder cables supplying electricity from the transformer to the church cabinet that sustained fire damage near the transformer, resulting in conductor failure, unsupported and hanging cables it’s now off again. I logged a new fault on the city power log a fault portal but they keep reopening closed old ones and say they will attend to it after 3 days! The church yard requires urgent repairs please as in like yesterday. Address: 1967 (89) - 3rd Ave, Alexandra Township (Church Yard) Date: Sep 06th, 2026 Time: 22:00 Current Ref Number: CPWEB***

I’ve never wanted to move out of the city like I do because of this *********** company. Imagine being out of power for days on end and watching them pick and choose which areas to work swiftly for. If you’re around Maboneng you’re gonna cry because of city power because they lack sense of urgency when it comes to that area. I’ve never hated any company the way I do this company. The city of joburg should find another company to provide power for its people. Service delivery 0, customer service 0, honesty and transparency 0, competence and urgency 0. I’m appalled, gravely. And this is a monthly occurrence mind you, see their twitter it’s always “we are aware of the power outage…” sies

The shocking lack of service from City Power never seizes to amaze me. A guarantee is dismissive operators who are unwilling to help and provide vague empty promises. Calling customer service makes the customer feel as though they are doing a disservice for calling them to do their job. I have been yelled at and hung up on - without ever raising my voice. I continue to be disgusted by this service which we are reliant on. City Power is exactly the reason people are weary of living in Johannesburg. We cannot expect our basic human right from a service that has no regard for what they are supposed to provide. Will this ever change?

WE HAVE NORMAL POWERED ELECTRICITY AT OUR PREMISES AND THIS IS A ESTATE LATE PROPERTY. ON 15 AUGUST 2026 AT 23h47, I LOGGED A FAULT FOR OUR METER THAT IS FAULTY WHEREBY THE UNITS WERE NOT PAIRING. CITY POWER CAME TO THE PREMISES ON 16 AUGUST 2026 AND SAID THAT TJE METER IS FAULTY AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE NEVER HAD THIS PARTICULAR UNIT ANYMORE AND SAID THAT WE MUST WAIT UNTIL THEUNIT REACHES 0 KILOWATTS OR ELSE WE ARD GOING TO LOSE WHATEVER UNITS WERE ON THERE. THIS I DID NOT UNDERSTAND AS THIS IS NOT A PREPAID METER. ANYWAY, WHEN WE REACH THE 0 KILOWATT READING, I THEN REQUESTED A BEW UNIT WITH CITY POWER ON 22 AUGUST 2026, 23 AUGUST 2026 AND 27 AUGUST 2026 AND TO DATE NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. I SPOKE TO THE COUNSELLOR WHO SAID HE WILL ESCALATE IT TO A CERTAIN FAZEL AND NOTHING TOO HAS HAPPENED WITH THE ESCALATION, HENCE; I REPORTED THE FAULT AGAIN ON 27 AUGUST 2026. TO TOP IT ALL THEYNDONT EVEN COME TO THE PREMISES TO DO ANY READINGS AND JUST WORK ON ESTIMATES, THUS THEY CHOSE TO SEND A BILL OF R10K PLUS

The most common complaint about City Power, based on Hellopeter's AI analysis of recent customer reviews, is Installation, Setup & Technical Support. A recurring theme is technicians allocated but never arriving, jobs abandoned for missing ladders, cables or meter box keys, and named field staff closing job cards without touching the fault. Some visits left customers worse off.
