Biggest Regret Ever - using Michanic

Our Mercedes-Benz C250 was entrusted to Michanic for gearbox-related repairs and we paid Michanic in excess of R67,000 for the gearbox repair on 16 July 2026. It has now been more than a month since they took possession of the vehicle for what should have been a relatively straightforward repair. This is particularly concerning given their marketing as "the trusted mobile mechanics." on Tik Tok and other social media platforms When we initially requested an update on when they will start working on the car, we were informed that a replacement part was ordered and that it would take approximately three to four days to arrive. Yet, by the very next day, work on the vehicle had already commenced. At the time, we questioned how repairs could have proceeded before the alleged arrival of the replacement part. As a result of these concerns, we requested: • The old part that was removed from the vehicle which they said we would need to pay for • Proof of purchase and proof of delivery for the replacement part that was allegedly purchased and installed. This documentation has been promised repeatedly but has still not been provided. The vehicle has undergone the following sequence of events: _ Undergone gearbox-related repairs for which we paid more than R67,000. - Approximately a week later Michanic returned the vehicle to us, representing that the problem had been rectified - Shortly thereafter (two days) the vehicle developed an oil leak. Michanic’s technician acknowledged was linked to the gearbox work - The vehicle was collected again from us on 25 Jul 2026 - The vehicle was returned to us about a week later - After only one day of driving the vehicle exhibited further and entire new gearbox-related faults - At that stage, we requested reimbur*****t of the repair costs rather than allowing our vehicle to continue being subjected to what appeared to be a process of trial and error rather than proper diagnosis and repair. - Michanic persuaded us to allow a further opportunity to rectify the vehicle, which we agreed to in good faith despite our growing concerns - Michanic convinced us to give them another opportunity to rectify the vehicle. - Although we had concerns arising from the previous repair attempts, we agreed to do so in good faith - The vehicle was returned to Michanic on 6 Aug 2026 for further attention. - During subsequent discussions, additional concerns were raised regarding the replacement parts used and this was amplified by their confirmation that the part fitted had a factory defect. - This explanation further undermined our confidence, as it raises legitimate questions regarding the source, quality, and authenticity of the component fitted. ie how likely is it that such a defect would exist for a new part? - We later discovered that the vehicle had been moved between Michanic, Sparklelights and, on 19 August 2026, we tracked the vehicle to Mercedes-Benz Sandton. - Upon following up on 21 August 2026, we were advised that Mercedes-Benz would only begin work on the vehicle on 24 August 2026, which appeared inconsistent with our understanding that the vehicle was already actively being assessed and repaired. Michanic also offered us a courtesy vehicle on which we were initially reluctant to accept, but due to the significant inconvenience, hardship and loss of use caused by being without our vehicle, we ultimately accepted the courtesy vehicle. Furthermore the courtesy vehicle provided is itself compromising our safety and cannot be used for the distances that the Mercedes Benz C250 was used for. Our acceptance of the courtesy vehicle was never intended to mean that Michanic had unlimited or indefinite permission to retain our vehicle or undertake repeated unsuccessful repair attempts In light of: • The amount paid in excess of R67,000; • The repeated unsuccessful repair attempts; • The development of further gearbox-related faults after repair; • The acknowledged gearbox-related oil leak; • The lack of transparency regarding replacement parts; • The prolonged loss of use of our vehicle; and • The safety concerns associated with the courtesy vehicle, we require the following: 1. The immediate return of our Mercedes-Benz C250; 2. Full reimbur*****t of the amount paid for the gearbox repairs;

Refund of R12,956.01 outstanding for over 3 weeks, three broken payment promises

I took my BMW 320i to Michanic.co.za for an oil pump replacement, chain replacement and minor service, and paid R16,600 upfront. During the work, they identified a larger issue and quoted R103,000 for an engine rebuild, which I declined on 3 August 2026. I was charged R3,600 for the diagnostic, leaving a refund of R12,956.01 owed to me. Since then I have been given three separate dates for this refund, none of which were honoured: - Told on 10 August the refund would be paid by 14 August — not paid - Told the refund was scheduled for 21 August, with proof of payment to follow — not paid - Confirmed again in writing on 21 August that it "will be processed today" — no payment and no communication followed I have all of this in writing across email and WhatsApp. Despite repeated written commitments, I still have not received my money or a single proof of payment. I would strongly caution anyone considering using this business, particularly if a refund of any kind becomes necessary. I am also escalating this to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa and will be pursuing a Small Claims Court claim if this is not resolved.

Gross Negligence, Poor Workmanship & Lost Accessories - Vehicle Engine Job Not Completed

I am lodging a formal complaint regarding the unprofessional service I received from Michanic after they stripped and collected my vehicle engine on 21 May 2026. Timeline of Events: 1. Diagnosis & Engine Stripping - 19 to 21 May 2026 Michanic conducted a diagnostic 2 days prior and then stripped/collected the engine on 21 May 2026. 2. Failure to Repair & Misleading Quote. A day later we were told their engineers "could not open the engine cylinder due to rusted *****s" - shocking and unacceptable, as a professional workshop should have the correct tools. They then quoted for a used replacement engine but failed to provide photos of the proposed engine despite repeated requests. For weeks they claimed they were "still looking" or "waiting on supplier". It is concerning that a quote was given for an engine that seemingly did not exist. Until we decided to take out engine for reconditioning elsewhere. 3. Lost Accessories & Negligence While Engine Was In Their Care. We requested the flywheel to be released early as a sample for a clutch kit. Michanic lost the flywheel bolts and claimed they had returned them. We were forced to purchase them, amongst other parts and accessories damaged during the strip process. When reassembling, they removed the gearbox awaiting the complete clutch kit and then left the engine suspended on bricks for over a week, which caused the sump to be dented/impacted. This followed an internal confusion at Michanic - Desmond, Thulani, and Operations Manager "V" gave conflicting instructions to the assigned mechanic on whether to continue or stop work, this was on 24 July 2026. 4. Poor Reassembly & Current Issues - 5 August 2026. When the assigned mechanic refitted the gearbox on 5 August, we immediately identified the following issues: - Oil leak from the sump. - A/C compressor cord left disconnected. - Air filter cover left loose. - Sensor gasket left out. - Plus other potential issues we are not yet aware of as the vehicle remains parked and has not been driven. 5. No Follow-up / No Accountability. We reported all of the above with photographic proof. Sandile repeatedly promised that he or manager Desmond would call back. It has now been over a week with zero response or assistance. Based on other negative reviews here, this appears to be a pattern. This experience has been extremely stressful and costly. Michanic had my engine for almost 2 months, delivered no professional outcome, caused new damage, and now refuses to communicate or take responsibility.

What a NIGHTMARE!!!

The mechanic arrived with the wrong instructions (Replace alternator and I supply parts instead of refurbish alternator and they supply parts). I obviously did not have the parts. The mechanic then left with my alternator to get it refurbished and returned 2 to 3 days later to refit. I had to first pay the remaining 50% (which is not right, we should pay when the job is done) he then refitted the alternator and the car started and idle for a while and then he left. After work I jumped in the car to go somewhere and there was a tik tik tik sound coming from engine when I drove a little, there was a knocking sound coming from somewhere and none of these sounds or noises were there before they worked on my car. Now the Mechanic is telling me the chain is faulty and he doesnt know about the knocking, he loosend the alternator and then put it back and I took a short drive and it seemed ok. this morning driving the car to car service city for a service and check the car cut out at CSC, they checked for me and the alternator is not working and not charging. I have now asked Michanic for a full refund and I wil source a new alternator and send it to CSC for fitting
