Fungi Ripping Us Off

This has gotta be the worst utility management company I've ever experienced. These rates seriously need to be investigated. The only thing they can do is blame Tshwane for increasing the rates. We are not idiots, we are actually educated and know how to use a calculator. The itemised bill they send have nothing to do with the tenants. Myself, along with some of the other tenants have surveyed amongst one another and also checked in with our neighboring Apartments and Complexes. And we found that even house holds with more tenants spend less than a R1000 and water and lights. Averaging between R650 to R850 per house hold. Whereas at Die Hoewes Towers where we live. An average houshold of 1-2 people (Me being a Bachelor) have been spending between R2000 to R3000 for the past 3 months. And let's be real... We cannot blame winter for everything. Especially over double what we were spending before. My electricity bill has gone up from R1200 to R2800. I don't use any heat appliances like heaters and electric blankets. I'm not home most of the time. My neighbor left home for a week and their bill went up by R1800 in a week. Please investigate if this company is assisting eskom with the billions they lost from Eskoms Orgies housing product. Or something because someone needs to explain why it's only FUNGI that has the right to destroy thousands of people's cost of living with no explanation. I live at Die Hoewes Towers in Centurion.

Over R3,100 in monthly utility charges with ~R1,600 unrelated to my own consumption

I am extremely dissatisfied with how Fungi Utilities has handled my dispute regarding my utility charges. My own electricity and water consumption for the month amounts to approximately R1,500. However, I am being charged over R3,100 in total utility-related costs, meaning approximately R1,600 consists of additional charges that are not directly related to my own consumption, including communal and other utility/management charges. When I challenged these charges, Fungi re**** on the Utility Application and Standard Terms and Conditions, stating that I agreed to pay applicable fees. My concern is that a general contractual provision allowing for “applicable fees” does not explain how these specific amounts are calculated or establish that every cost incurred at the property can simply be passed on to the tenant. In particular, Fungi has stated that communal electricity costs are distributed among the units, but has not provided me with a sufficiently detailed calculation showing how my specific portion was determined, what the total communal cost was, or what methodology was used to allocate it. I am therefore being asked to pay significant amounts that I cannot independently verify. These charges are deducted directly from my prepaid utility wallet, meaning they reduce the funds available for my actual electricity consumption. I am not refusing to pay legitimate utility charges. I am asking Fungi to provide the contractual basis and actual calculations for these additional charges, particularly the communal costs being passed on to me. For a tenant to potentially pay over R3,100 a month in utilities when only around R1,500 relates to their own consumption, I believe there should be complete transparency about exactly where the remaining costs come from and why they are contractually recoverable from the tenant. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive the detailed calculations and justification I have requested, and I am now escalating the matter through the appropriate channels.

Unexplained and inconsistent gas and electricity charges despite physical meter readings

I could give a zero if it was there. so inconveniencing. Unexplained and inconsistent gas and electricity charges despite physical meter readings We have previously raised concerns with Fungi Energy regarding unusually high and inconsistent gas charges, but the issue remains unresolved. We therefore started monitoring our physical gas meter ourselves. The reading increased from 914.274 m³ on 4 August 2026 to 919.124 m³ on 14 August 2026, meaning we physically consumed 4.850 m³. Fungi communicated that the August LPG tariff decreased to R50.68/m³ excluding VAT (approximately R58.28 including VAT). Based on this tariff, 4.850 m³ should cost approximately R282.67 including VAT. However, gas charges reflected on our account from 4–14 August total approximately R377.05. The daily charges are also extremely inconsistent despite our usage remaining broadly similar: - 14 August: R48.95 - 13 August: R75.82 - 12 August: R16.55 - 11 August: R12.40 - 10 August: R32.40 - 9 August: R15.16 - 8 August: R25.50 We shower once daily, wash dishes once daily and cook approximately once every three days. We reduced our light bulbs from three to one per room and our bill started to decrease by half. but suddenly after a few days it increased two folds despite maintaining daily usage We are requesting a clear reconciliation showing the daily meter readings, actual m³ consumed, tariff app**** and calculation used for each gas charge, as well as correction of the account if we have been incorrectly billed.

BEWARE OF STAYING ANYWHERE WHERE FUNGI UTILITIES ARE THE UTILITIES COMPANY

Good people beware of having Fungi Utilities as your complex utilities provider. Read the google reviews, research. MORE IMPORTANTLY UNDERSTAND HOW EACH RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX CHARGES WATER, ELECTRICITY, SANITATION AND MANAGEMENT FEES. I queried my bills and was given misleading and incorrect information. If you have a wall socket in the ON position and NO plug in that socket YOU WILL NOT BE USING ELECTRICITY AT ALL. DO NOT BE MISLEAD. Fungi's billing is very suspect, it seems they charge for electricity and water even when NO one is staying at a unit in ECOPARK EAST, CENTURION. GET FULL DISCLOSURE from M&T Residentials on how you will be charged for water and electricity.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. AT ECOPARK EAST, THERE IS NO SEPEARTE WATER METERS AND YOU ARE CHARGED AN AVARAGE PER BLOCK. IF YOU ARE SINGLE YOU PAY THE WATER FOR EXTRA PERSONS IN OTHER UNITS. UNFAIR, THANKS TO FUNGI.

DO NOT LIVE IN APARTMENTS SERVICED BY FUNGI UTILITIES

Pathetic Service provider. Charging people excessive amounts on electricity and then give us lame excuses and explanation on why the bills are soo high. And they just lie… and say things like oh the data doesn’t lie… The people living in M&T properties are the only people that I know off that are being killed with these crazy Utility charges! At this rate we might as well go live in expensive areas. It’s DISGUSTING!!!

Worst Utilities Provider!!! They will Rob you!

The worst service provider I have ever experienced in my life! As a resident of 3 years at one of the M&T Properties, I have experienced nothing but endless issues of being over charged, and NO ONE seems to be able to assist me, nor does anyone care. All I hear constantly are excuses, yet there is more than enough proof to show that we are being ****** by the way you are charging us, yet there are other tenants in my block in the same unit set ups (3 Bedrooms) with 2 people in it, that are paying a 3rd of what we are paying. How can 2 people that are barely home be charged R4703,49??? and the tenants across from us downstairs are also 2 people in a 3 bedroom and they paid R1865,98. I have had more than enough now of the daylight *******. And we are not the only unhappy tenants because of FUNGI.

Billing Practices by Fungi Utilities

Fungi Utilities is a *****ulent company ****ming residents out of their money. My daughter is renting an apartment in one of the M&T townhouses, and even on weekends when she is not home, Fungi continues deducting money. This shows that their system is not measuring actual usage but is designed to deceive unsuspecting tenants into believing it is functional. They charge for a full month regardless of whether you are home or not. From my observation, it seems they calculate their budget by charging each tenant around R20 per day. Everything is billed separately hot water is charged, network is charged leaving residents with inflated and unjustified costs. This practice is exploitative and unfair, and I believe Fungi Utilities should be investigated for ****ming tenants through these *****ulent deductions.
