Fungi Ripping Us Off
This has gotta be the worst utility management company I've ever experienced.
These rates seriously need to be investigated. The only thing they can do is blame Tshwane for increasing the rates. We are not idiots, we are actually educated and know how to use a calculator. The itemised bill they send have nothing to do with the tenants.
Myself, along with some of the other tenants have surveyed amongst one another and also checked in with our neighboring Apartments and Complexes. And we found that even house holds with more tenants spend less than a R1000 and water and lights. Averaging between R650 to R850 per house hold.
Whereas at Die Hoewes Towers where we live. An average houshold of 1-2 people (Me being a Bachelor) have been spending between R2000 to R3000 for the past 3 months. And let's be real... We cannot blame winter for everything. Especially over double what we were spending before. My electricity bill has gone up from R1200 to R2800. I don't use any heat appliances like heaters and electric blankets. I'm not home most of the time.
My neighbor left home for a week and their bill went up by R1800 in a week.
Please investigate if this company is assisting eskom with the billions they lost from Eskoms Orgies housing product. Or something because someone needs to explain why it's only FUNGI that has the right to destroy thousands of people's cost of living with no explanation.
I live at Die Hoewes Towers in Centurion.
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We understand why the increase in your monthly utility costs, particularly when compared with your previous bills, would be concerning.
We have reviewed the billing structure applicable to Die Hoewes Towers and would like to clarify that the higher August amount is not solely a reflection of your individual electricity and water consumption.
At this property, there is a single water meter for the site. As a result, the hot-water component is allocated to the individual units on a pro-rata basis and does not represent the actual hot-water consumption of a specific unit.
In August, the site experienced a significant increase in overall hot-water consumption. This formed a substantial portion of the charges allocated to individual units, with more than a third of the usage-related amount on your account being attributable to the hot-water component. The increase in site-wide hot-water usage is particularly relevant during the colder winter months, when overall hot-water demand can increase.
It is therefore important to distinguish between your individual consumption and communal/pro-rata charges. Based on the account review, your normal individual electricity and prorata water consumption does not generally exceed approximately R1,000, excluding applicable fixed fees and communal charges. The higher total amount in August is therefore not simply an indication that your personal consumption suddenly increased by the amount reflected on your bill.
We also appreciate that comparing utility costs with neighbouring properties can be frustrating. However, different properties may have different tariff structures, fixed charges and methods of allocating communal services, so these comparisons may not reflect the same billing basis.
Fungi does not determine or control the amount of hot water collectively consumed at the property. Our role is to apply the applicable billing and allocation methodology to the consumption and charges received for the site.
We appreciate your concerns and understand the importance of transparency around these charges. Our Support team remains available to provide an explanation of the individual and communal components reflected on your account.
Kind Regards
