Unexplained and inconsistent gas and electricity charges despite physical meter readings
I could give a zero if it was there. so inconveniencing. Unexplained and inconsistent gas and electricity charges despite physical meter readings
We have previously raised concerns with Fungi Energy regarding unusually high and inconsistent gas charges, but the issue remains unresolved.
We therefore started monitoring our physical gas meter ourselves. The reading increased from 914.274 m³ on 4 August 2026 to 919.124 m³ on 14 August 2026, meaning we physically consumed 4.850 m³.
Fungi communicated that the August LPG tariff decreased to R50.68/m³ excluding VAT (approximately R58.28 including VAT). Based on this tariff, 4.850 m³ should cost approximately R282.67 including VAT. However, gas charges reflected on our account from 4–14 August total approximately R377.05.
The daily charges are also extremely inconsistent despite our usage remaining broadly similar:
- 14 August: R48.95 - 13 August: R75.82 - 12 August: R16.55 - 11 August: R12.40 - 10 August: R32.40 - 9 August: R15.16 - 8 August: R25.50
We shower once daily, wash dishes once daily and cook approximately once every three days.
We reduced our light bulbs from three to one per room and our bill started to decrease by half. but suddenly after a few days it increased two folds despite maintaining daily usage
We are requesting a clear reconciliation showing the daily meter readings, actual m³ consumed, tariff app**** and calculation used for each gas charge, as well as correction of the account if we have been incorrectly billed.
