AI Review Summary

Based on recent customer reviews, Ford South Africa is described by owners as a brand where product defects and manufacturer support both fall short. Customers consistently report engine, gearbox and electrical failures on new and near new vehicles, parts stuck on backlog for months, and escalations that end without resolution. Isolated praise exists for individual sales and service people, but a recurring theme is that accountability disappears once a complaint reaches head office.

Named individuals such as Morne Schlebusch and Kitso at Ford Bryanston, Deon at CMH Kempster Randburg, and polite service consultants at BB Auto Polokwane earn genuine praise, while managers elsewhere are described as dismissive.

Terrible

Disappointing After-Sales Service from Ford South Africa – Premature Fuel Injector Failure I purchased a 2015 Ford EcoSport 1.5 TDCi Trend in 2023. While driving the vehicle, I noticed that it was producing excessive smoke. I immediately contacted the dealership from which I purchased the vehicle, and they promptly asked me to bring it in. In January 2024, all four fuel injectors were replaced at a mileage of 97,059 km. I have since driven the vehicle daily to and from work and have ensured that the maintenance has been kept up to date. Despite this, one of the fuel injectors has now started leaking. The current mileage is approximately 119,000 km, meaning I have driven only around 21,941 km since the injectors were replaced. I find this extremely concerning. Based on information available online, diesel fuel injectors can have an expected lifespan of approximately 240,000–480,000 km, depending on various factors. While I understand that component lifespan can vary, I find it unacceptable that an injector would reportedly fail after such a relatively short distance following replacement. I contacted Ford South Africa, hoping that they would investigate the matter and offer some assistance. Instead, I was informed that the warranty had expired and that my only option was to replace the injector at my own expense. What disappoints me most is the lack of empathy and willingness to assist a customer who has already experienced injector problems and had all four injectors replaced. I understand that warranties have terms and conditions, but surely a component failing after approximately 22,000 km warrants further investigation rather than simply being dismissed because the warranty has expired. As a customer, I expected better from Ford. After-sales service should mean more than assisting customers while their vehicles are under warranty. It should also mean listening to customers, investigating legitimate concerns and making a reasonable effort to find a solution. This experience has left me extremely disappointed and has seriously damaged my confidence in the Ford brand. I would not recommend Ford to anyone considering purchasing a vehicle, based on the experience I have had and the lack of support received when I needed assistance. What I would like Ford South Africa to do: I would like Ford South Africa to review my case, investigate why the injector has failed after such a short distance, and offer a reasonable solution, preferably covering the cost of the replacement injector or assisting with the repair costs. I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for accountability, fair consideration and the kind of customer service one would reasonably expect from a major vehicle manufacturer. I hope Ford South Africa takes this complaint seriously and demonstrates that its customers still matter after the warranty period has expired.

Bought a Faulty Steering Rack from NMi Ford

Mduduzi Moshokgo *** 7:33 PM (0 minutes ago) to me I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a steering rack that I purchased from NMi Ford Selby in Johannesburg on 11 November 2025 for R31,241.96. The steering rack was fitted by an RMI-approved workshop. After installation, the steering operated correctly, and the steering was soft and functioning as expected. However, by March 2026, approximately four months after the steering rack was fitted, the steering became hard. I contacted the salesperson who originally sold me the steering rack, and I was advised to take the vehicle to any Ford dealership so that the steering rack could be inspected and the warranty claim could be attended to. I subsequently took the vehicle to NMi Ford Alberton for assessment. I was then informed that the warranty claim could not be accepted because the steering rack had allegedly been "tampered with." I was told that the rubber boots had dust on them and that the clamps had been removed. I dispute this conclusion. The steering rack has not been tampered with, and the components remain the original Ford components supp**** with the rack. The vehicle is also driven in rural conditions, where exposure to dust is unavoidable. The presence of dust around the rubber boots should not, by itself, be treated as proof that the steering rack has been tampered with or that the failure was caused by the customer. I also raised the possibility that the steering rack may have had a manufacturing defect. Parts are manufactured in bulk, and manufacturing defects can occur. The fact that the steering rack operated correctly initially and then developed a hard-steering problem only a few months later is a matter that, in my view, requires proper investigation rather than simply rejecting the warranty claim based on the presence of dust or the condition of the clamps. I purchased the steering rack directly from Ford and paid R31,241.96 for what I understood to be a genuine Ford replacement part. It was fitted by an RMI-approved workshop. I therefore believe that this matter deserves proper consideration and that I should not simply be left responsible for the cost of a steering rack that failed within a relatively short period. I am requesting that Ford/NMi Ford: 1. Reconsider the warranty claim and properly investigate the cause of the steering rack failure. 2. Provide me with a written technical explanation detailing exactly what evidence shows that the steering rack was tampered with. 3. Identify specifically what component or condition was allegedly altered and how that alteration caused the steering rack to fail. 4. Consider replacing or repairing the steering rack under warranty, or otherwise provide a reasonable resolution to this matter. I am not refusing to have the part inspected. I am asking that the inspection and warranty decision be based on the actual cause of the failure rather than simply the presence of dust around the steering rack boots. I have purchased a Ford part at a substantial cost and expected it to provide reasonable service. I would appreciate this matter being escalated to the relevant warranty department or management for a proper review. I look forward to receiving your written response and a proposed resolution.

Foctory defult

I took delivery of my Ford Terrority on 27 January 2026 and reported defects almost immediately. These included scratches on body panels and a persistent steering/drivability issue where the vehicle pulled left and right. Despite multiple visits to Ford Germiston during February, March and April, the issues were not resolved. An independent fitment centre subsequently identified alignment concerns and a ride-height discrepancy between the left and right sides of the vehicle, suggesting a possible manufacturing defect. These concerns were reported to Ford South Africa. Ford later discussed replacement and settlement options. However, the replacement vehicle presented to me was not acceptable, and a proposed settlement of my finance account was never implemented despite written communication. The vehicle was involved in a rear-end collision on 1 July 2026, several months after the original defect complaints had already been lodged and documented. The accident does not change the fact that the defects existed from the date of delivery and were repeatedly reported. I am requesting a fair resolution taking into account the documented history of defects, unsuccessful repair attempts, and commitments previously made by Ford.

No response from Ford South Africa

Good day. I wrote a review a few days ago. Going through the Ford Reviews, I see that not one review was rep**** to by Ford SA. I to date have not as much received a call. The big boy bully tactics is so sad. Ford you employ thousands of South Africans. Yet you have no respect for South Africans that buy your products. Totally disgusted.

Ford refuses to cover costs after gearbox failure and safety recall on 10 speed gearbox

SA CRC CASE Ford: ***, Gearbox concern | AFAPXXMJ2PKU60807 | Mr. Eric Joyce Please see 25SE2. Vin number shows vehicle built in 2019. (safety recall on Ford SA site) Well what a roller coaster ride trying to resolve this matter. In November 2025 my XLT 10 speed auto lost power on the drive train. 98000km on the clock. Contacting Ford Heidelberg, service adviser tells me to rather go to Mayfair gearbox. It will be cheaper and they send all gearbox related matters to them. I do this and R88k later I get my vehicle back. I try put a claim in to Ford SA. I raised gearbox issues during service. In December I get told No. In January2026 I get a surprise call from Ford SA again to say they are reviewing my case. In February I get told no way they are paying 1c. Now The consumer council announces a safety recall for the exact problem. The council also states that out of warranty repairs can be claimed. Well to my disgust I went through the same procedure. The staff @ CRC ford are totally none compliant and did not even bother investigating my previous claim nor listen to me once again. The useless emails I received and the continuous explaining showed the incompetence of these members. Fortunately this time round, I insisted on correspondence via email and not telephonically. Do I have a paper trail. Yesterday I receive a mail from Loraine stating ford will not cover these costs. Ford SA the Bully. Now my next step???? Ford Always denied that they had an issue with the 10 speed auto. Takes the consumer council to force a recall. A safety recall. Does this bother Ford SA? No way. I even Asked Ford Legal to assist when I was getting no response from the CRC 1 and 2 emails.

Ford Ranger build quality concerns.

This letter serves to inform potential buyers of the Ford Ranger about my experience with the vehicle I currently own. My vehicle is a 2023 2.0 XLT 4x4, purchased from Action Ford Krugersdorp. Unfortunately, I have experienced several build quality issues, both inside and outside the vehicle, which are listed below:Transmission tunnel cover: Vibrates loudly while driving.Rear brakes: Squeak constantly.Rear seat: Squeaks while driving.Front doors: The electric window panels fit loosely in the door cards.Armrest cubbyhole lid: The latch is weak, causing the lid to open constantly while driving.Bonnet: The panel gaps are poorly aligned. These issues are highly inconvenient and frustrating. What bothers me most are the squeaking brakes and the self-opening armrest lid.I have raised these concerns multiple times during my regular service intervals, but I have never received a satisfactory repair. During my last service, I was told that "anti-squeak spray" was app**** to the rear brakes to mitigate the noise. I was also shocked to learn that Ford considers the weak armrest latch to be my fault, meaning it is not covered under warranty. After lodging an official complaint with Ford South Africa Client Care, they reiterated that anti-squeak was used on the brakes and that the armrest lid replacement would be for my own account. At this rate, I suppose they will soon suggest "anti-vibrate spray" for the transmission tunnel and "panel alignment spray" for the bonnet gaps.If you are thinking of buying a Ford Ranger, I highly recommend inspecting the vehicle thoroughly and doing a rigorous test drive of the exact unit you plan to buy to avoid disappointment. In my opinion, these are fundamental build quality issues with the new-generation models.
