Based on recent customer reviews, Capitec Bank faces overwhelming criticism across almost every service area. Customers consistently report accounts frozen for months without explanation, ATM deposits and cash sends that disappear, and disputes closed without resolution. Staff & Branch Experience (2.1) emerges as the only relative bright spot, with individual consultants named for genuine care. However, Transactions & Dispute Resolution (0.8) and Account Access & Management (0.9) reflect systemic breakdowns that leave clients locked out of their own money.
Top Strengths:
- •Staff & Branch Experience: Individual consultants are repeatedly praised by name, including Tommy, Terry, Mpho, Kirstin and Sedikana, and Smart ID applications are often completed in minutes. However, many branches cannot reach head office departments, so clients return several times without resolution, and rude treatment is reported at multiple locations.

Capitec's Ridiculous Online Card Authorisation Process
Honestly, Capitec, what on earth are you people thinking? I use Capitec Internet Banking on my PC and authenticate using my physical keyring token. This is a deliberate choice. I prefer managing my banking on a computer rather than being forced to rely on a mobile banking app, which I need reading glasses for by the way. Unfortunately, Capitec has apparently decided that customers who choose this perfectly reasonable banking method should be punished when shopping online. I can no longer complete online purchases using my Capitec debit card because the transaction authorisation process requires approval through the Capitec app. No SMS OTP is offered as an alternative. No practical alternative is provided. Just a system that leaves me unable to complete my purchases. And here's the really ridiculous part: **if I use Internet Banking on my PC, Capitec apparently won't allow me to use the app as an alternative for authorising these transactions either.** So customers are left dealing with an inflexible authorisation process that actively interferes with their ability to use their own bank cards. How is this supposed to be an improvement? Banking technology is meant to make life easier, not create unnecessary obstacles for paying customers. I should not have to restructure the way I do my banking simply because Capitec has implemented an authorisation system that doesn't accommodate customers who prefer PC-based banking. The result? I've stopped using my Capitec debit card for online purchases altogether. I am now seriously considering moving to another bank. Why should I remain a customer of a bank that makes something as basic as shopping online unnecessarily difficult? Other banks are competing for customers, and I have absolutely no intention of staying loyal to a service that creates problems where there should be none. **Capitec, here is a simple question: why can't you offer a sensible alternative, such as an SMS OTP or another compatible authorisation method, for customers who use Internet Banking on their PCs?** I am not asking for anything unreasonable. I want to continue using Internet Banking with my physical token while retaining the ability to make online debit-card purchases. That is hardly an outrageous expectation in 2026. If Capitec wants to insist that customers must use its app, then at the very least, provide a workable alternative for those who have deliberately chosen not to do so. Not everyone wants to be dependent on a smartphone for every banking transaction. At this stage, the experience is frustrating, unnecessarily restrictive, and frankly embarrassing for a bank that should understand the importance of customer convenience. **My message to Capitec is simple: fix your authorisation process, provide customers with a practical alternative, and stop making basic banking unnecessarily complicated.** Otherwise, I will happily take my business elsewhere. There are limits to customer loyalty, and making it difficult for customers to spend their own money is a rather spectacular way to test those limits.

Capitec bank allows *****
Capitec bank refuses to reverse unauthorized deductions if its a subscription. They fail to understand that we cancel subscriptions but these companies forcefully take our money even after this. Capitec why are you not taking instructions from your clients? All banks allow us to reverse unauthorized transactions, why not you? You don't even have the decency to ask us for proof of cancellation before you reverse the payment. I have had 3 deductions from Rain this month for an *** I closed in January kept billing me for it. This matter with Rain is coming since January. Again in April they did the same. When I spoke to capitec they just say "we don't reverse subscriptions ". No exceptions are made, no proof was asked for, just simply that. Capitec you are exposing us, allowing people to just take from us when we canceled 9 months ago. Today Rain deducted yet again, twice last week and today. Yet capitec bank whom I've banked with for over 10 years says they cannot help me. How is that possible. I am unemployed Capitec and every cent counts. You need to do better, think bigger and ask us for proof of cancellation then reverse the funds. I have been fighting with Rain since January and they keep taking the little that I have and my bank allows them because capitec bank refuse to reverse subscriptions. That is their final decision. People consider going back to the traditional banks because they listen to their clients regardless. Capitec bank is just disappointing. The underdog is always kicked!!!!

Unauthorised debit order
Capitec system just decided to debit my account on the 24th even though the agreed debit order date is the 29th. Not sure who gave them the right to do as they please with our accounts. This is annoying and an inconvenience
