Poor Communication
Says ‘WhatsApp for enquiries’ yet does not respond. Sent me one voice note then disappeared. Extremely unprofessional. Learn to maintain business. How can you guys choose this business to make your wedding dresses which most of you are reviewing poorly… they couldn’t even assist me a scarf!

Embarrassed mother of the groom
I was very disappointed with my custom designed dress. The dress I received was too small, and the wrong colour was used for the stitching aswell as the zip and button, which made the overall look completely different from what I requested. On top of that, the stitching was uneven and untidy, giving the back of the dress a poorly finished appearance. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of communication throughout the process. I never received updates or clarifications, and my messages went unanswered. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this designer based on my experience. I hope improvements can be made in quality control and customer communication. Lara informed me the day before the wedding that the amount quoted has changed, because she repeatedly started over again using more fabric.

My wedding dress & Second dress - The communication is bad and the service disappointing. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend them.
I approached Lara to make my wedding dress and second dress. Quotations were sent, and I paid the 50% deposit (R14 330) The communication throughout the process was extremely poor - no replies, no effort. When serious matters were discussed, they even used ChatGPT to respond. I explained that I was upset with their service, as this wasn’t just any dress - it was my wedding dress. I repeatedly asked them to send photos and videos of the progress so I could see that things were on track, but there was no response. I had my mock-up fitting done in inexpensive fabric (the first fitting) to confirm the cut and pattern. I raised my concerns and clearly explained what needed to change. Afterwards, Lara confirmed that they would now begin with the final dress ("the real deal") Then, just five days before my second fitting, Lara suddenly sent me a contract to sign (which included conditions and information that were never part of what I received before paying her). At my second fitting, she told me that this was already the final fabric, and only the lining still needed to be added. I was very unhappy with the material used - it was nothing like what I had requested - and the cut was incorrect. The dress looked rushed and unfinished. After I expressed that I was unhappy and requested my deposit back, I then received messages claiming that this was also just a mock-up. I want to make it clear that I didn’t suddenly change my mind or decide not to use them without reason - the issue lies entirely with the execution of the dress, which did not match the original discussion, the reference photos, or the expected standard. The examples I sent were clear guidelines that were not followed. Their version of the process and conditions keeps changing. I acknowledge that Lara did put in some work, and I have stated that she may deduct her labour costs from the deposit. Since no work has been started on the second dress, I expect the remaining balance of my deposit to be refunded immediately. (Lara herself confirmed that no fabric has been purchased and no work has started on the second dress.) I know I’m not the first person to feel this way about their service. It’s disappointing that they cannot take responsibility for their work and customer experience. Clients seem to be the last of their priorities. Her ready-made pieces sold in-store are truly beautiful, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend her for custom designs.

Terrible quality and customer service
Customer service, communication, and quality of dresses was terrible. I would hate for someone else to experience what we had. I would strongly NOT recommend her services at all.

Extremely disappointing experience
We used Lara Louise Designs to make brides****s’ dresses for my friend’s wedding, and I would strongly advise against using her. Communication was shocking throughout the process, messages were ignored, and there was absolutely no accountability when issues arose. The dresses themselves were poorly made: straps were sewn on twisted, none of the dresses were lined (making them see-through), and she went ahead and bought different fabric and made the dresses without the bride’s approval. When we raised our concerns, she never apologized or took responsibility. We chose not to return the dresses for “fixing” because, after everything we had experienced, we had no confidence in her ability to correct the mistakes or communicate properly, especially so close to the wedding. When we sent photos of the workmanship and expressed our disappointment, not even an apology was offered. In the end, we were forced to buy new brides****s’ dresses, losing 100% of the money we had already paid in full. It is completely unacceptable and embarrassing to charge clients for work of such poor quality, coupled with unprofessional communication and no accountability. Highly recommend avoiding this ‘designer’.

Throughout the process, communication was poor. I constantly had to follow up for updates, and whenever I did, there were always excuses instead of clear answers. To make matters worse, additional costs were added that were never communicated upfront, which felt very unprofessional. When we finally received the dress, the quality was shockingly poor. It did not fit properly, and some parts were literally coming apart — seams were unfinished, and certain details weren’t even sewn on correctly. After such a long wait and the high expectations for a once-in-a-lifetime event like a matric farewell, this was extremely upsetting and disappointing. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Lara Louise Designs. The lack of communication, unexpected extra charges, and poor workmanship left us very dissatisfied.
