Worst ISP - just look at the many bad reviews. I should have checked them out on Hello Peter before comitting.
- I would not recommend this ISP to anyone. They price better than the others on Vumatel’s site, but the difference in cost versus the difference is service is huge. The little you pay less a month results in a much, much poorer service and is definitely not worth it. - I am - and have been - trying to cancel my WebAfrica service. - I am trying to move into my new place, but rely heavily on an internet connection as I work from home and my work modem does not have signal there – hence the need for a fibre line installation. - I cannot move to another ISP – and therefore into my new place – as WebAfrica need to cancel my agreement and release my fibre line to my alternate ISP. So, not only are they not offering me a service, they are preventing me from making use of another. - I have been having a horrible experience with the support channel offered since the beginning of our journey, but since Vumatel had to do their installation first, the focus was on them more than WebAfrica. - Vumatel performed my installation last week on the 20th. Everything ran smoothly from their side. - Since then I have been trying to get a hold of WebAfrica to inform them as they are dependent on the Vumatel installation. - These attempts have been pointless and made me realize that if I have to struggle so hard to get a hold of support when I don't even have fibre yet, I am definitely going to be let down when the service has been activated and my line is down. - I then decided to cancel my service as the only service I had actually received up to that point was Vumatel's installation. Which I would be happy to pay for as part of the clawback costs. - Since there is only one support channel – WhatsApp (I tried reaching out initially as well as cancelling later on online, but am redirected back to WhatsApp) - I was experiencing the same issues trying to cancel the service as I had been trying to activate it. - On January 24th – four days after my Vumatel installation - I finally managed to speak to someone on WhatsApp. I did this by setting up reminders to check my phone, because a support will only wait for 30 minutes, but I can be expected to wait four days before someone responds to me. - My cancellation request was accepted and transferred to someone else by Daniel Davids on the 24th, although many cancellation attempts were made before then, and I am yet to hear back from WebAfrica’s Technical Support/Billing team regarding ym request. - After many further failed attempts, I finally managed to get a hold of Rabia on the 25th. She too acknowledged my request and I am yet to hear back from the Technical Support/Billing team. - Again, after many failed attempts, I managed to get a hold of Yolanda. Yolanda informed me cancellations are to be done online through the portal. I informed Yolanda that the portal re-directs me back to the WhatsApp chat. - I was informed by Yolanda of costs I would incur - claw-back fees – during that conversation and later on through a newly-generated invoice: o Vumatel’s installation cost o The Cost for the modem o The cost for the delivery of the modem o The connection fee o The cost for usage for the remainder of the month - This is fair for benefits received such as the VUMATEL installation. - However: o I never received a modem so am not liable for the cost of the modem or the delivery fee or to return the modem o I requested a cancellation before the service was activated, so am not liable for the connection fee or the usage for the remainder of the month – which I cannot even take advantage of as I do not have a modem. - If the support team had actually answered my requests to cancel within a reasonable time the connection from WebAfrica to Vumatel would not have been made. That is not my fault. It is the fault of the support service. I have been requesting a cancellation since before that. - I have escalated the matter to Yolanda’s Manager through a complaints email she offered – this was done yesterday and I am yet to receive a response despite following up this morning. - All I want is to settle the clawback cost I am liable for – the R1750 for the Vumatel installation – and have my fibre line released so I can make use of another ISP. Until then, I cannot even move into my own home.
