Webafrica is throttling my Internet!
I pay over a R1,000 every month for 250 Mbps speed but I find it constantly at 50-60 Mbps every time I check. On 14 March I waited 3 hours until eventually Anelise T. helped me to ensure all my router settings were correct. It took 45 minutes to do so. My internet speed was then up to 250 Mbs.
By 20th March the speeds were back down to 170 Mbs, and the next day I complained again to Neo M. The speed suddenly jumped up to 212 Mbs. I checked again yesterday on the 24th and today the 25th and the speeds are back down to 50-60 Mbps. Now I just dealt with Zintle N. and "amazingly" my internet speed JUMPS back up to 250 Mbps while I'm on the phone with her!
You, Webafrica are THROTTLING my internet! And you only temporarily rectify the speed when I complain to an agent. When I demand a technician comes out to check my Wifi router, I'm told it will be for my account. This is just disgusting considering I've paid thousands of Rands over the last 6 years to you. If this continues, I will cancel my contract and others experiencing the same constant low internet speeds should do so as well.
- Restart your modem and router – performing a full power cycle often refreshes your connection and can improve speed consistency.
- Check device and app usage – ensure no single device or application is consuming a large portion of your bandwidth while running speed tests.
- Optimal router placement – place your router in a central, open area, away from walls or electronic devices that could interfere with the signal.
- Test a wired connection – connecting directly via Ethernet can help rule out Wi-Fi interference.
- Update router firmware – keeping your router’s firmware up to date can improve stability and performance.

- Device capability and load balancing: Some devices can’t consistently handle 250 Mbps over WiFi, especially if multiple high-demand devices are active at once. Ensuring priority traffic (like streaming or work devices) is managed correctly can make a noticeable difference.
- WiFi band steering and channel optimisation: Even when configured, interference from neighbouring networks can cause speeds to drop over time. A manual channel reassessment or optimisation can improve stability, especially in busy areas.
- Line consistency vs burst speeds: Seeing full speed during troubleshooting is a good sign that the line can deliver the correct throughput. The focus now is on ensuring that performance holds steady outside of those moments.
