WebAfrica is a highly unsatisfactory ISP

WebAfrica has been a highly unsatisfactory ISP in South Africa. I would not recommend considering them when searching for an internet provider. My connection frequently drops at random times, and others using WebAfrica in my area report the same problem—our local WhatsApp group messages confirm this. Although WebAfrica repeatedly instructs me to connect directly to my ONT and perform tests, it's clear the issue originates with the ISP. In contrast, those using Metrofibre as their FNO with other reputable ISPs don’t encounter these disruptions. Many WebAfrica customers have already switched or are planning to switch to better providers because of this persistent issue, coupled with poor support from WebAfrica. I am even seeking legal advice about how to proceed, since working from home means these connection problems have resulted in a loss of income.

Hello Tommy,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand how frustrating it can be when your connection drops, especially when working from home, and we truly acknowledge the impact this has had on your productivity and peace of mind.

Although other users in your area may be experiencing similar issues, each case must be addressed individually, as there are no confirmed outages at this time. The best way forward is to troubleshoot your connection step by step. Here’s what we recommend:

If you have extenders set up, try switching them off and leave only the main router connected. This will help confirm whether the disconnections are related to the extenders.
If the issue persists, connect directly to your Metrofibre ONT and set up a broadband connection. This will determine whether the problem originates from Metrofibre’s side, allowing a fault to be logged if necessary.

We emphasise this approach to ensure everything is checked before logging a fault with Metrofibre, as unnecessary call-outs could result in charges if no issues are found on your line.

Once you’ve attempted these steps, kindly confirm the outcome so we can determine the next steps. Should you require further guidance or support during this process, you’re welcome to reach out via Hello Peter, and the team will gladly assist you.

Warm regards,
Webafrica Crew
