Web Africa — Unauthorized debit after repeated cancellation requests

I requested cancellation of my Web Africa line on 10 February 2025 — not once, but many times — as I was unhappy with their service. Their agent confirmed it would automatically cancel after a few days. Despite this, Web Africa debited R429 from my account on 1 April 2025 without authorization.

I never signed any debit order mandate with PayFast or Web Africa. I only ever paid via one-time payment links. When I queried the debit, agents claimed the line was "still active" because I supposedly didn’t submit a "formal request" — which is false, as I have chat proof of my repeated cancellation requests and their confirmation.

When I pushed for a refund, the agent ended the chat without resolution.

Web Africa has no authorization to debit my account and is refusing to refund an unauthorized transaction. Avoid this company.

Hi Webafrica Crew,

“Easter weekend” does not explain the last 2+ months.

I submitted my cancellation in February 2025. To date, you have still not confirmed or actioned my cancellation. You ignored my follow-ups, your support mailbox is unmanned, and your agents ended the chat when I requested a refund for the unauthorised 1 April 2025 debit.

I have chat proof of multiple cancellation requests and your confirmation. I did not sign any contract authorising ongoing debits after cancellation. Continuing to debit me is ******** under the Consumer Protection Act.

Bank chargeback is in progress. Formal complaints have been lodged with ICASA and the NCC.

“Private message” is not acceptable. Please confirm here, publicly:
1. My line is cancelled effective February 2026
2. The 1 April 2026 debit refunded immediately

Update 12 April 2026:

Webafrica rep**** here 08 April and phoned me the same day. Your agent confirmed multiple failed cancellation requests were on record and promised a full refund of the 1 April 2026 debit before Friday 10 April.

It is now Sunday. No refund. No email update as promised in your reply above.

This is now a breach of your own commitment. When will the refund reflect? I will update this review once resolved.

Following up is not an update. It’s stalling. Since 01 April you took my money. Promised refund by 10 April. Still no money, no update, no response to my emails.

Hi Unathi, we understand your frustration, especially given the time that has passed since 01 April without resolution. We’ve escalated your refund query again with our finance team and requested immediate prioritisation and a clear status update. The team is currently reviewing the case to confirm what has caused the delay and to finalise the next steps. We will come back to you with a concrete update as soon as feedback is received from finance, including progress and expected timelines. Warm regards,
