Took Payment Under False Pretences – Still No Refund

Took Payment Under False Pretences – Still No Refund This is a formal warning to anyone considering using WebAfrica. On 7 March, I contacted them to confirm satellite internet coverage at my address. After providing full details, their agent explicitly confirmed that there is coverage and instructed me to pay an upfront installation fee of R250. I made the payment immediately, trusting the information provided. When the technician arrived on-site, I was told the exact opposite — there is NO coverage or infrastructure in my area. This means WebAfrica took payment for a service they are fully incapable of delivering. Since then, I have been attempting to get my refund, but their support is completely unacceptable. Their WhatsApp responses take more than 24 hours, with no sense of urgency, no accountability, and no resolution. Let’s be clear: You confirmed coverage when there is none You took payment based on false information You have delayed refunding me for over a month This conduct is misleading and borders on *****ulent. I am demanding an immediate full refund of R250. If this is not resolved without further delay, I will escalate this matter to the relevant consumer protection authorities and pursue it formally. To other customers: Do NOT pay WebAfrica anything upfront unless you have independently verified coverage. This has been a complete waste of time and money. #WebAfrica #HelloPeter #ConsumerRights #****Alert #SouthAfrica

Hi Lefa, we understand how frustrating and disappointing this experience has been, especially given the time you’ve already spent trying to get this resolved and the impact it’s had on you. We’ve submitted a request for your refund to be processed and it has now been sent through to the relevant team for urgent action. Once there is feedback or confirmation, you’ll be updated straight away so you’re not left following up unnecessarily. Warm regards,
 Webafrica Crew

Update: WebAfrica Still Has NOT Refunded Me – Empty Promises Since MarchI am updating my complaint because, to date, WebAfrica has STILL not refunded my money despite admitting the issue and publicly responding on HelloPeter. On 7 March, WebAfrica confirmed satellite internet coverage at my address and took an upfront payment of R250 for installation. When the technician arrived, I was told there is actually NO coverage or infrastructure in my area.In simple terms:
  • WebAfrica confirmed coverage that does not exist
  • They accepted payment for a service they cannot provide
  • I have been fighting for my refund ever since
Their customer service has been shocking. WhatsApp replies take over 24 hours, communication is poor, and nobody takes ownership of resolving the issue.

On 13 April, WebAfrica responded publicly on HelloPeter claiming:“We’ve submitted a request for your refund to be processed and it has now been sent through to the relevant team for urgent action.”Yet weeks later, there is STILL no refund, no meaningful communication, and no resolution. At this point, these are nothing but empty promises and delay tactics. No customer should have to chase a company for months to recover money for a service that was never available in the first place. This experience has been unprofessional, misleading, and completely unacceptable.I will continue escalating this matter until my refund is paid.To anyone considering WebAfrica:
Be extremely careful before making any upfront payments. Verify everything independently.#WebAfrica #HelloPeter #ConsumerRights #PoorService #RefundOutstanding #SouthAfrica

Hi Lefa,  We understand how frustrating and disappointing this experience has been, especially after being advised that coverage was available, only to later find that the service could not be provided. Situations like this, combined with delays in communication and resolution, understandably lead to a loss of trust and increased frustration. We can confirm that your refund request has been submitted and is currently pending approval. At this stage, it is being processed through the required internal review and approval workflow to ensure the correct validation is completed before final authorisation. We understand the importance of this matter to you, particularly given the upfront payment and the inconvenience caused, and the team is working through the necessary checks to finalise the outcome as soon as possible. Kind regards,
 Webafrica Crew
