POPIA violation and Clawback charges
My father had passed away and I was forced to move provinces to take care of my mother. Being an only child to my parents, I've had to sacrifice alot and unfortunately in-between resigning from my dream job and grief I overlooked the wifi. I called up webafrica and explained the situation and advised that I would like to move my services to my mons place because I still wanted it. They did advise that my current provided doesn't cover my new residence and I would need to cancel and take up a new contract which I'm happy to do. Then I was told I needed to pay a clawback for installation at old premises. I argued that I wasn't canceling the service just moving to a new spot so whats the need for the clawback because they want to cancel and replace, I want to transfer services. The Agent tried explaining and I asked to speak to customer service so I can explain to them further. The agent puts me a que so I'm waiting and I get a whatsapp message from someone who says Hi, I placed an order with you yesterday. I say what order and he says Fibre. I ask how he got my number and he sends me a screen shot of the conversation he had with the agent.
This agent had given my phone number out without my permission to a complete stranger.
I go straight back to chat and at 10:32am requested a manager call which up to now, it's 2pm I haven't received as yet.
The POPI act was just introduced to all businesses in South Africa and training was given to employees in all relevant industries just a few months ago and today my privacy gets invaded. Why was my number passed on to another client and why was I getting questioned on things I know nothing about.
What pathetic service, leave alone the extra unjustified charges now someone out there has my phone number and could use it to get all my linked information.
