No promised internet connection

I normally disagree with naming and shaming posts on social media but here i find myself about to write one. This is out of sheer desperation and after many, many attempts to get the company concerned to rectify the situation. It is also after spending many days and hours (at my expense) on my cellphone trying to find a solution.

You the reader can now judge whether I was wrong to run to social media to highlight my problem.

I was over the moon when I found out that fibre was "live" in my area. At last a decent internet connection with decent speeds. I opted for a decent uncapped, 100Mbps line

I immediately signed up with Webafrica as my ISP with Frogfoot as the fibre provider. This process was relatively simple. Within less than 24 hours the fibre connection from the kerb to my house was installed. I was impressed.

From there things just started going downhill. My euphoria of finally having a fibre connection dissapated as I started to deal with one *********** person after the other.

The contractor (imported from Jhb, yes we do not have people in PE who can do the job????) had to return to my house no less than 3 times to redo his shoddy workmanship and that was after he assured me that everything was okay and my ISP now only had to activate my account.

Next step was Webafrica. My line was activated according to them and ready to go. The start of many frustrating calls and dealing with consultants from reception, sales and technical support who either had no clue what they are doing or who simply have not heard about customer service. I have to be fair though and have to single out 3 people who have been marvelous, who went the proverbial extra mile trying to help. They are Carla (Sales), Ricardo and Warren (Technical Support)

The blame game and passing the buck is still ongoing. Because Webafrica is my ISP i deal with them and not with Frogfoot who is the infrastructure owner. I therefore have no beef with Frogfoot. Webafrica blames Frogfoot who in turn says the problem is not on their side.

Asking to speak to a senior person at the company is like asking them to hand over state secrets. Trying to get a telephone number or email address of someone senior is a gigantic effort in futility. One bluntly gets told that a request to speak to a manager has a 48 hour turnaround time. Imagine being in Shprite or any other store and you get told that when you ask to speak to a senior person. What would your reaction be?

Suffice to say nearly 2 weeks, many phonecalls and personal time later, I still have no working internet connection with no end in sight for this sorry state of affairs.

So if you intend installing fibre to your home or business think carefully. You may be lucky and all may go well or you could end up with a situation such as mine.

At the time of writing this I am extremely pessimistic about ever having a working fibre connection in my home. It is my hope that a senior person from Webafrica reads this post and intervenes.

I will update if there should ever be a happy ending to this tragedy
