Webafrica

<div>I signed up with Webafrica in May 2025 for an uncapped month-to-month fibre package at R679 per month. I deliberately chose a month-to-month option because I was unemployed at the time and needed flexibility. My understanding was that if I missed a payment, the service would be suspended until I could pay again.

This is not how Webafrica operates. When a payment is missed, the service remains active, and the unpaid month simply rolls over to the next bill. This has now happened three times, resulting in me being expected to pay double-month charges. I have only recently started contract-based work, and this billing practice has placed me under serious financial strain. I am now being asked to pay two months’ fees plus a R50 missed debit order charge.

Due to affordability, I arranged a more cost-effective fibre service with Vodacom. When I contacted Webafrica to cancel, I was told I must:

Settle the full outstanding balance

Wait 30 days

Pay a R999 cancellation fee

At no point during sign-up was I informed of any cancellation fee. Had this been disclosed, I would never have agreed to the service. This is a month-to-month package, not a fixed-term contract, so a cancellation penalty makes no sense.

To add to the frustration, Webafrica sends SMS notifications stating that the service has been “disconnected,” yet the connection remains active and billable. For comparison, another provider’s month-to-month service (used by a family member) suspends the service immediately when payment is missed, preventing debt accumulation, and charges no cancellation fee.

I believe Webafrica’s billing and cancellation practices are misleading and unfair. I specifically chose a month-to-month contract to avoid long-term financial commitment, yet I now find myself trapped by accumulating fees and undisclosed cancellation costs.

I am requesting that Webafrica urgently review this matter, remove the cancellation fee, and provide a fair resolution regarding the outstanding balance.</div>
