FIBRE FAILURE
Between Frogfoot & Webafrica, they have succeeded in a conspiracy to utterly destroy me. Background. My wife passed 9 Sep 2019. With that, I lost half of my potential income. This meant that I had to cut back on expenses as far as possible, and, being a military man from the 70’ & 80’s, I have PTSD, I needed to cut down frustration and matters that make me more depressed than I am. Accordingly, I cancelled my DSTV. I also opted to ****** off from Telkom, who are incapable of maintaining a functioning, consistent 10Meg ADSL line. Seeing that Frogfoot had laid the necessary conduiting, right outside my door, I opted to go for fibre. Well. It seems it was a BAD choice. To start with, I had to wait a month. Fine. On the appointed day (a Friday!) the tecchie was late! He did phone. In an attempt to stay on the good side, I accepted his tardiness. He arrived and I left him to do his work. But first, he INSISTED the white and black Frogfoot boxes had to be mounted on the diagonally opposite side of my house from my study. When I protested, he said that the wifi would reach my study. In any case, he had also arrived, sans handlangers. WHEN they arrived, he disappeared, and for the rest of the day, too. The handlangers took the REST of the Friday to install the FO. At, or about, 17h10, they were leaving. The question was, was the cable spliced, or not? I was recommended to phone Webafrica and report the cable in ( I do not believe that was an upfront communication from WA or FF). I duly phoned WA. Only to be told that it was after 17h00 and I needed to call back on Monday. So that was a, further, >48 hour delay. On the Monday, I called. From that point it was a downward spiral of being told that FF had to report the line in/that the line being in was being processed/various other untruths. It, finally, transpired that the line was NOT IN. The tecchie had NEVER spliced it. So I had to wait for him to, finally, arrive to complete the job which ought to have been completed, timeously, on the Friday. When this was done and I had 4 green lights. I started reporting the line in. Back to the situation that (it seems) that I CANNOT report the line ready, FF must, and FF, for whatever reason, was NOT reporting the line in. So that issue took a day or 2. Finally, after much nervous tension and UTTER DISREGARD for the PAYING CLIENTS needs/wishes, the router was reported en route. Once I had the router and connected it and got it running. Brilliant. EXCEPT that my signal in my study was less than 4Meg, which is unsatisfactory. On top of which, it is not optimal to have the computer and the modem/router on diagonally opposite sides of the house. I then had to purchase a long Ethernet cable and bring the modem/router to the study. Still not optimal as the FF white and black boxes are over there and I am here. I was BILLED for my service, before it was up and running. This I find unfair and *********. The speed collapsed during the month and it was an issue to get it back to standard state. On Wednesday 27th the system was fine. On Thursday, at, or about 10h00 I noted long response times, so did speed tests. The results were inconsistent, ranging from just over 1, to under 1 to as low as 0,18. So I called WA. This was a disaster. After the tecchie got me to change settings on the modem/router I totally lost my line. No internet. Repeated calls. Whatsapps and whatever on Thursday and Friday up to 17h00 did not solve the matter. FF did not care a rat’s **** and were not interested. Few at WA seemed to care. Tecchies reported other tecchies as being students/inexperienced/apprentices. Tecchies just cut my call and did not call back. No One would put me thru to anyone in authority. WA’s stupid Willie just chucks me off and goes back to the start, without resolving anything. I am so sick and tired of the stupid jokes. I am so sick and tired of waiting for a mensch to answer a call. I spent about 8+ hours on the phone/cellphone. I have reduced income, remember? By 17h00, yesterday, after I had, finally, cracked and WA had literally driven me to tears, I had no internet. So NOTHING will happen until Monday, again. This much we know: There is NOTHING wrong with the cable. It worked just fine on Wednesday and, moving closer to the black box and trying two, other, perfectly good, cables elicited the same outcome. I live alone (remember?) so no one fiddled with my system or cable. BECAUSE I have no internet, my ONLY, after hours entertainment is non-extant. So here is one, miserable, old soldier, with NO entertainment. Because of all the time spent calling WA, I discover, last night, that all my airtime is gone. So no cellphone and I cannot buy airtime because I have no internet. I cannot pay my accounts. I cannot email. This morning (Saturday) at, or about 04h00 ( I can’t sleep) I spot that the internet light is green! A speedtest shows 1. The Ookla app failed as speed too low 2. Ookla, on the web reported 1,14Meg, I think. It was about 1 Meg. I don’t pay you for 1 Meg. I’m sorry. This PROVES, again, that it is not the cable. It must me the router/modem OR the FF black box OR sabotage by Telkom/OpenServe/WA/FF. Or all of the above. Whatever. WA has decided to bill me, again. Fast to demand their pound of flesh, slow to assist their PAYING CLIENT. This is unacceptable. It is not proper in terms of the Consumer Protection Act. It is not proper in terms of ICASA. It is simply cruel and inhumane. I DEMAND credit for these outages (and 1Meg is unacceptable). I DEMAND that WA give proper attention to their clients and their needs. The ball is in YOUR court. Fix.
