7-Year Customer Charged ******** R999 Fee After Service Failure

I have been with Webafrica since May 2019, but I am now cancelling due to grossly inconsistent line speeds and a total lack of support. My livelihood depends on this connection, yet Webafrica horrific customer service, leaving me with no redress for technical failures. Despite my 7-year loyalty, they are attempting to levy a R999 cancellation fee. I am formally disputing this under Section 14 of the CPA and Clause 10 of the ISPA Code of Conduct. Both require that cancellation fees be 'reasonable' and proportionate to the loss suffered by the ISP. Given my tenure, there are no unrecovered installation or hardware costs to justify this amount. Webafrica is in material breach of our agreement. I have already sent a formal letter placing them in mora.

Thank you for the response. Please note that my formal notice of dispute (dated 13 March 2026) explicitly cites a material breach of service and a violation of CPA Section 14 regarding the R999 cancellation fee for a 7-year account.
As this connection is my livelihood, I am not looking for an 'investigation' into the line—I am looking for a waiver of the R999 fee and an immediate release of my line so I can move to a provider that offers support. I await your written confirmation via email within the 48-hour window provided.

Your repeated, identical bot response further proves the horrific customer service I am complaining about. After 7 years, I deserve a human response to a legal dispute.
You have failed to address the CPA Section 14 violation (the R999 fee for a 2019 account) or the material breach of service. I am now counting down the 48-hour window before escalating this to the ISPA and the National Consumer Commission for formal mediation. Stop the automated scripts and provide a written waiver of the fee.

The fact that my previous response triple-posted due to your unstable connection perfectly illustrates the horrific service and inconsistent line speeds I am complaining about. Even your own customers can't use your service to complain about the service!
This is a textbook example of a material breach of contract. I am attaching screenshots of this 'glitch' to my formal ISPA and NCCcomplaints as physical proof that your 100/50 Mbps line is currently unfit for purpose

I acknowledge your response. However, 'patience' does not restore the significant amount of time I have lost due to your lack of service and unstable connection.
My formal notice of dispute (sent 13 March 2026) provided a 48-hour window for a resolution. If I do not have a written email confirming the full waiver of the R999 fee and my line release by Monday morning, I will proceed with formal ISPA mediation and an NCC filing for a material breach of the CPA. I am not interested in further 'reviews'—I require the waiver and my line released.

I acknowledge the call from your Retentions team, but as previously stated: I am not interested in 'options' to stay. I require written confirmation via email that the R999 cancellation fee is waived and my line is released.
Under Section 54 of the CPA, I am terminating for a material breach of service (proven by the technical instability of this connection). Under Section 14, a R999 fee for a customer since 2019 is an ******** penalty as there are no unrecovered costs.
A phone call is not a resolution. I await the written waiver in my inbox. My 48-hour notice period remains in effect until I have this in writing, after which I will proceed with formal ISPA and NCC mediation."

Subject: FINAL NOTICE: Matter Escalated to ISPA and NCC
To the Webafrica Team,
I acknowledge your repeated suggestions to speak with your "Retentions" team. I have made it clear that I am not a "retention" candidate; I am a long-standing customer exercising my right to terminate for material breach under Section 54 of the CPA and disputing an ******** penalty under Section 14.
Since you have failed to provide the requested written waiver of the R999 fee within the 48-hour window provided, please take note of the following:
  1. Formal Escalation: I have officially filed a complaint with ISPA for a violation of the Code of Conduct and am preparing a filing for the National Consumer Commission (NCC) regarding your predatory cancellation fees for long-tenure accounts.
  2. Line Release: I reiterate my demand that my line be released effective 01/05/2026. Any attempt to "lock" the line or hold the circuit hostage due to a disputed fee will be added to the NCC filing as an additional unfair business practice.
  3. No Further Calls: Do not have your Retentions team call me. I require all future correspondence to be in writing for use as evidence in the ongoing mediation.
I will now await the outcome of the ISPA mediation process.

UPDATE: Webafrica debited the waived R999 fee anyway (2 months later)
I thought this nightmare was finally over after my original post, but Webafrica’s incompetence—or outright greed—knows no bounds. Here is what has happened since the ISPA resolution:
  • The Equipment Was Returned Early: I was given a 20-day window to return the router. I was proactive and returned it securely within 7 days of my service ending. They had absolutely zero hardware or installation costs to claim.
  • The Sneak Attack: Two months after the dispute was settled and I thought I was rid of them for good, Webafrica had the absolute gall to debit the R999 from my bank account anyway. They completely ignored the formal settlement reached through ISPA and dipped into my account when they thought I wasn't looking.
  • The Current Status: True to form, Webafrica completely ignores direct emails, support tickets, and complaints once they have your money. Because they refuse to respond, I have officially bypassed them and lodged a formal ***** dispute with my bank to force an immediate reversal. I am also filing a non-compliance report with ISPA for breach of their settlement terms.
The Verdict:
If you are thinking of dealing with Webafrica, save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. They have zero scruples and ZERO respect or service. The only thing they are good at is taking your money.
If you are currently dealing with their ghosting tactics over billing errors, do not waste your time begging them for a refund. Bypass their non-existent support, contact your bank immediately to reverse the debit as unauthorized, and let the ***** department handle them.

Hi Rindie,
Thank you for taking the time to outline everything so clearly. Being charged again after a resolved matter, especially when you’ve already done the right thing by returning equipment within the expected period, would understandably feel frustrating and concerning. Situations like this should not leave you second‑guessing whether things were properly concluded.
A review of your account confirms that the amount reflects a router clawback fee, which is typically app**** when a device is not returned within the required timeframe. However, based on what you’ve shared, including returning the router early, this absolutely needs to be verified properly.
A request has now been escalated to the Finance Team to fully review the account history, including the return of the router. They will reach out to you directly via email with a clear explanation and confirm the correct next steps, including any adjustments if the charge was incorrectly app****.

Warm regards,
Webafrica Crew
