Vumatel quick to deduct the money and no support

Vumatel installed fiber to our home quickly, cleanly and efficiently particularly when deducting the cost from our account.

I contacted Vumatel to enquire about getting connected and was told I needed to sign up with an internet service provider. The broadband site provides a comprehensive list of current deals and I signed up with MWEB Friday February 10. Monday 13th I was given instructions how to connect which failed. I have spent about 8 hours this week trying to find out the problem and got very unpleasant with the call-center guys at MWEB who were trying their best. I wrote emails copying Vumatel to ensure they were in the loop.

Friday 17th after hanging on yet again to the MWEB answering service I threatened to contact the MWEB Sales director and demanded to be put through to a manager, got really angry and only then FINALLY received a Reference number within minutes. Five minutes later an efficient call center guy call me and who then contacted Vumatel, called me back and told me Thabo from Vumatel was contacting their activation team where the entire process was being held up all along. The problem was never on the MWEB side. Further Thabo was going to contact me and provide updates. Thabo never had the plain courtesy to contact me and I phoned him twice (on-hold, transferred, stuffed around, etc.). I eventually demanded to speak to the “support manager” Ronald at 4:30. Ronald confirmed the hold up was with the activation team and assured me someone from the activation team would call me. I phoned again around 5:30 to be told the activation team finished at 5 but they would assist me tomorrow (Saturday) and he would be in. I also finally received a reference number.

Saturday 18th I am told by Vumatel that the so-called activation team only works Monday-to-Friday 8-5pm. Ronald and Thabo were off for the day.

So I am waiting. Vumatel were copied on all email correspondence with MWEB and not once bothered to determine if the problem was on their side.

Bottom line: Vumatel’s back-up service is completely unsatisfactory. I would recommend to areas installing fiber – get someone who installs and is an Internet Service Provider. Be very wary of Vumatel, they pass the buck and don’t take responsibility.
