Vumatel leave more than Fibre in their wake, they leave a mess

I was approached some time ago by a liaison officer for Vumatel: Ryan Oakes, who advised me that the company was laying fibre networks in the Randpark Ridge Area. He maintained that they had permission from the Council to do so.

To this end they gave me a brochure outlining the process and assuring us that when their contractors left they would leave our paving and driveways as they found them.

The construction team came and ripped up the driveway and laid their cables and then made a half-hearted attempt to fix the paving.

I wrote an e mail to Ryan Oakes on 25 July 2017:

“Ryan,

We were assured by you that the paving on our driveways and the street would be restored to the condition in which you found it.

The pictures attached would suggest otherwise and your workers have left the street and the site!

You have 5 working days to restore the paving and road in front of my home to the condition you found it in.

Yours sincerely,

P.G. Verkerk”

I eventually got a reply from some other liaison officer for the company, a man by the name of Reece Louw on28 July 2017:

“Hi Mr Verkerk

I trust this email finds you well.

A team will be out to have a look at your driveway this coming week. The contractor who built your block will be responsible to rectify the driveway and all issues you may have regarding the work that took place. Unfortunately sir I would love to say that the driveway will be completed in 5 days and I will push to have the contractor back but I can’t promise this. It will most probably take up to 10 days at the most to have everything completed.

If you have any other queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards,”

In the interim nothing has happened and no attempt has been made to repair the driveway to its original condition. Furthermore the street surface is covered with cement runoff and debris still lies in the street.

The contractors too and their teams have now moved on to another area to wreak further havoc and discord.

To date the driveway and roadway in front of my home have still not been reinstated.

The public needs to know that these folks are not living up to their promise of reinstatement of the property they have been working on.

Despite several calls and promises to address the issue the driveway has still not been restored to its original condition
