VUMATEL: All Talk and No Action

In a previous posting, I shared my report about how VUMATEL (Cape Town) disclaimed all responsibility for the faulty fibre connection that they installed for me. To recap briefly: my apartment building in Observatory, Cape Town, is serviced with fibre by VUMATEL. I took out a contract with VUMATEL/Telkom for a 20/2 Mbps (Uncapped) fibre connection. In the four months that I have had this "upgrade", it has NEVER worked properly. My internet comes on nice and strong at first, but then all the green lights on that little box start flashing like police-car emergency signals and my Internet speed slows to less than copper ADSL speed. When I try to have it fixed, Vumatel blames Telkom and Telkom blames Vumatel. This is classic SA "service". After my last report here, Vumatel rep**** to Hellopeter.com and assured me in a message that they would attend to the problem ASAP. Well, they said that on Hellopeter to save face but saving face on a public site seems to be all they were capable of. As to actually FIXING my problem or even phoning me - nah, why bother with a mere individual consumer? Maybe VUMATEL Cape Town is so critically short-staffed that making empty promises is the very best they are capable of doing. I want to warn consumers: NEVER deal with VUMATEL. As for Telkom, well, everyone knows that's a lost cause. But VUMATEL should know better, if only they gave a damn. Clearly, they don't. Avoid VUMATEL at all costs, unless you're a masochist.
