Relocation of Fibre Box
Dear Vumatel,
I hope this message finds the team well.
In 2017, Vumatel came to install fibre onto my complex in Gardens. My family and I were overseas attending a funeral at the time, so we did not know what was happening here in the country. Strangely, yet concerning we got an email from ADT that our alarm system kept tripping and going off. ADT said that the guard who went to check out our place, noted that a lot of construction was taking place around the property, predominately around our kitchen window. We were very confused at the time. When we got back here, we were shocked to see a large ugly metal box installed right underneath the kitchen window, right by the windowsill. Vumatel did not have proper authorization on this! There were no indications of this installation and its location! There is a common location where the electrical box, Telkom box are located. So, it should have been located there. It makes way more sense there.
This is damage on my property without my consent! There’s 4 holes in my wall, which even reduces waterproofing! There is even a crack on the wall caused by it, which we had to plaster over it now. Having the box there causes security, privacy and health issues!
We have been arguing with the Body Corporate about this for years now and recently since the whole complex is now starting to go under renovations and modernization. Everyone unanimously agreed that the box should be moved at Vumatel’s own cost as there was no proper consent and authorization on this. That it causes a major security, privacy and health concerns for my family and I, perhaps anyone around it as well. The common location with all the other boxes where it is far from everyone, should have been the place of its location in the first place.
To make matters worse and vexatious. Our property management agent phoned your call centre multiple times over and possibly emailed you guys as well. But there was no proper answer. All you said that it would be expensive and it would be OUR COST?!? That you guys would not do it without our proper consent? Where’s the papers, proof of consent from us, the Body Corporate and etc??
So please can you relocate the fibre distribution box and restore my kitchen wall to its original condition! It does not matter if the whole building’s fibre is going to be down. This has to be done now! Not later, not in a month or a years time!
So Vumatel have successfully made contact with me. Many thanks, Ms. Hayley and the Vuma Team. The Senior Resident Liaison, Mr. J phoned my phone number this morning, inquiring me on a site visit today. The Maintenance Network Owner, Mr. G is expected to accompany Mr. J in today's visit. Mr. J said that they will phone me, an hour before their expected time of arrival. I look forward for their site visit today and the outcome alongside it as well. I will keep this updated.

So Mr. J phoned me again this afternoon, saying that Mr. G is not available today. That they will visit the Complex tomorrow between 11h00-12h00. I hope this will happen unlike today. That it won't be delayed as time is ticking at the moment.

I received a confirmation email from Ms. Hayley yesterday about today's scheduled site visit. That is much appreciated. Very professional. So, as on schedule, Mr. J and Mr. G and his assistant arrived at the complex on time to conduct the site visit with me. After their explanation on their side and about the contract, that a previous Trustee (who by now vacated the complex), authorised it (without proper authorisation from everyone else in the Body Corporate and or other Trustees). I explained to them that the box causes a major security, privacy and health concerns for everyone around it, especially us; and that the Body Corporate have unanimously agreed that the box should be moved, as the whole complex is undergoing renovations. Thus as a conclusion and with much professionalism from Vumatel, they proposed that Vumatel would pay for the labour fees, while we as the Body Corporate would pay for the material cost. That it would be cheaper for everyone since we are already renovating and retaring.
Mr. G and Mr. J said that an email will be sent to my email address on Monday with a complete report, breakdown and quotations of everything. I will then forward all to the Body Corporate where we would all proceed from there.
I am happy with today's outcome, I look forward for the email on Monday and will keep this updated.

So, I sent an email on Friday, asking Ms. Hayley about Monday's email with its full breakdown, report and quotation. She rep**** to me on Monday, which is understandable. She stated that she will make sure I get an email from Mr. G or Mr. J or herself with regards to this. But sadly, I was disappointed that I did not receive any email or correspondence on Monday, what so ever. But I understood that perhaps everyone was busy compiling everything and etc.
Nevertheless, as of now on Tuesday this morning, I got an email from Mr. J that they apologise for not sending me an email on Monday and that they have submitted a summation of the agreed upon methodology to be implemented in the moving of the fibre distribution box for the complex. They said that they are currently awaiting the quotes for labour as well as the cabling requirements for the move to be made possible. That once the above mentioned quotes have been received, they will be submitted to me for consideration/approvals by the body corporate of the apartment complex.
I hope that it would be the same proposal that labour would be paid by Vumatel and the material costs by us.
I look forward for their emails and the quotations.
I will keep this updated.

It had been over a week and I hadn't receive an update from Vumatel or Mr. J on the progress of the quotation and the summation of the report and all. I emailed Ms. Hayley on last Friday for a status update, she rep**** back to me on Monday, which is understandable as Friday is next to the weekend. No further correspondence occurred since that day from Vumatel, Hayley nor Mr. J.
I emailed once again yesterday, further inquiring on it, as the whole complex is undergoing renovations and that it would be cheaper for Vumatel to relocate the fibre box when everything is happening. I finally get a response the next day, which is today, on the status of the quotations by Mr. J. He explained that currently they are waiting on the quotations and will keep me and the Body Corporate informed and updated. He said he will also send them to us as soon as he gets the quotations.
I look forward to the update and the quotations from him, Vumatel or Hayley.
I will keep this page updated.

I finally received an update from Vumatel after numerous emails. Mr. G was on site on Tuesday last week, conducting a final assessment of the site. He said that I will get a quotation later that day. I didn't receive it, only after numerous emails, I get it on Friday. Quotation is on material costs only, while labour fees is paid by Vumatel. It is expensive which is understandable, though will see if the price can be negotiated down a bit. Much appreciated thus far. Many thanks.
I look forward to the developments.

So Mr. G came by a week ago to discuss with me about the cost and plan of everything. A trustee was there to ask further questions and inquiries. Price could not be negotiated down further and that it was only the cost of materials. Due to the high price, the Body Corporate is currently in discussion about the cost, plan and so on. Therefore this issue is currently pending/postponed and on going until further notice. It would have been appreciated if the cost was slightly cheaper than R30 000. I look forward to the development of this and I hope this will be sorted out soon or in the near future. I will keep this updated. Thank you.
