My never ending quest for fibre

This has been an absolute nightmare. Whoever told you it would be easy to sign up with Vumatel, they were lying! Every time I think we are making some progress I get informed of another delay. A brief summary of what has happened:

- Vumatel comes to complex and informs us it would be live end of Feb or beginning March. This was delayed, but was not surprised. Didn't think the original estimate would be correct.

- Eventually, I get the email that we are now live and I can sign up.

- I sign up as requested

- The next day I was contacted and asked to confirm the complex and address

- 7 days later I finally get contacted by someone that wants to schedule the installation. In the email they claim the process, including the ISP bringing the router, takes at most a week and a half.

- The installation team shows up 12 am on Saturday. They clearly were unhappy about working over a weekend and the quality of their work shows it. (This was BriteLink Technicians)

- The team that needed to the final inspection shows up 4:30 pm that same Saturday. An hour and a half late. They do 1 test and say the complex is not fibre ready yet and leave.

- No feedback on Monday

- Tuesday I follow up and finally, someone says they will send technicians on Thursday.

- Thursday... no technicians. At about 6 pm I see them working outside the complex, but they never bothered to come into my unit.

- Long weekend happens and at this point, the unexpected happened and Telkom was more efficient than Vumatel. My ADSL gets canceled. No further help from Vumatel or Fibrehoods over the long weekend.

- Monday no follow up from them until I sent an email. After which they sent out techs to fix the last issue on the installation. The techs inform me that Fibrehoods can see the line and that all that is now required is to configure the ONT. They said this takes 40 minutes to 1 hour. They were not the first to say that this step will take max an hour.

- Tuesday, still not active. Send a follow-up email and get informed that the configuration request was only sent this morning and could take a day or 2. All of a sudden it is no longer 40 minutes to an hour, but instead a day or 2.

During this time I was also unable to phone normal Vumatel support as they are completely unable to locate my application on their system. Even though I can access the application just fine.

The Vumatel representative in my area also has a nasty habit of saying he will phone back in 10 minutes with an update, but he never does.

Something went horribly wrong when Vumatel bought Fibrehoods. It seems no one knows what is happening and how this setup works. I highly suggest sending all staff that work on this new merger for training as this has been more painful than dealing with Telkom.
