Afrihost Fibre through VumaReach - Traffic Routing
I have Vumatel Reach Fibre, with Afirhost as my ISP. Speed, Connection, and service overall is good if you don't ever need to contact them. Once you start a ticket then the wheels fall off.
I gave them ample time to help and correct the issue, so now I am here to say my piece and hopefully help others avoid the same mistake. Unfortunately for me, VumaReach is the only fibre in the area otherwise I would NOT go with this solution at all!
#NB: Afrihost.com on hellopeter doesnt reply at all, Afrihost has thee worst support at the moment, not sure how they went down this rapidly, because 5 years ago I would praise them. Since then the support service desk has been appalling. Telling me to log tickets with their Vendor (Vumatel) and saying that Vumatel blocks the routers and instead of making contact with their vendor and collaborating to solve the issue. Pathetic client service. They dont even read the ticket history, they just reply with generic answers to pass the buck.
I contacted Afrihost July 27 and logged the case number #KLL-***3. Since then various tests and checks and on going investigations, back and forth between Vumatel, Afrihost and even Afrihost telling me to contact xyz. I even had a case logged with Vumatel #ISP-204441.
Its been 78 Days (2 and a half months) today since.
All I ask was ports to be forwarded from WAN to LAN within the router that they provided, or give me access to the said router. I was told that the device would be swapped with a Vuma Aerial model, then told that Vumatel won't swap the device. Instead Vumatel told Afrihost to change the ip to a 102.***** address, because apparently Afrihost is has double NAT'ed my IP configuration making my NAT type fluctuate from strict to moderate.
This case have been bounced from from support to Fibre ops back to support, closed even at some point.
On Sept 15th Afrihost rep**** and said the following from Fibre ops
"There are currently no available IP's from either of the other ranges that we could assign to this Client. Andrew is going to allocate more IP's from a non Carrier-grade NAT subnet but this hasn't been done yet" They still working on it apparently.
So I left it, I mean surely a month would be enough time to resolve IPs and provide me with a public IP that I pay for. So today I follow up with Afrihost on the situation and this was their reply.
"Hi Lyle, I'm sorry for that miscommunication, Vuma doesn't allow access to that ONT/Router and if you would like to speak to a manager please call ***. Thank you Kind Regards, Ntsika"
Clearly does not care about the client, just pushing through tickets. Probably never even checked the history of the ticket.
I am at a loss and here I sit unable to route traffic from between WAN and LAN on my own network due to limitations and blocks set out on these VUMATEL devices, it hinders my work, it stops my personal development and growth in IT as I cannot run test environments, due to me not being able to route traffic bewteen outbound and inbound and vise versa. I cant even change my own WIFI password that they set because I dont have access to the router.
The Vumatel Reach solution is a mess and needs to be addressed. I have even offered to PAY! for a device that I have access to and asked for you VUMATEL and AFRIHOST to proved a basic ONT with a live IP that I may connect to my own personal Firewall. Yet nothing...........................
Thanks for making contact with us.
We will escalate the issue to our CT Reach team and they will make contact with you.
