The epic disaster that is Vaal Networking...
Oh, where to start? The first few months went pretty smoothly, but THEN the train smash came: I changed my banking details. Big mistake. Phoned them to inform them of banking details change. Asked to email new details. Sent it promptly, adding to please use a debit order to deduct payments. Don't realise that payments are not going off until my wifi is switched off. Phone them to ask what the problem might be. No payment. Oh, well, what about the debit order? Yeah, it didn't go through. Ask them to please send me the banking details as they have it on their system. I notice they had it on cheque account but it should be on savings account. Get a snotty reply when I mention it, along the lines of "it shouldn't make any difference". Hmmm. Ask them by phone to please send me their banking details so that I can pay the outstanding money into their account. Sure, they'll email it. I'm waiting, nothing arrives. I email them, please send banking details. Nothing again. I email again. Nothing. I phone and ask to speak to someone in charge, explain that I simply want their banking details, she promises that they will return my call with the information. Nothing. I phone again, just to get a snotty response from the whoever asnwered the phone that I should have seen it myself, since the banking details are on the monthly statement. What monthly statement, I ask. The one they email me. I have never received a monthly statement from them. Ask them to please check my email address on their system. They entered it incorrectly, deciding I didn't spell my own email address correctly. Again, a few months go by, pretty smoothly. My internet gets switched off again. Phone them and ask what the problem might be. Oh, the account isn't paid. How is that possible, I ask, since it is supposed to be deducted by debit order. Yeah, since the debit order didn't go through for a few months, I now have to pay it myself monthly. I'm speechless, how is it possible, and why didn't anyone inform me of this? It is what it is, they say. I am now behind several thousand rands. (Mind you, 4 megs per month for R1000... Let's just leave it there). They phone me, informing me that I am behind on my payments. Yes, I know, I am trying to catch up. Can I make an arrangement? Sure, they say. At the end of the month they call to let me know I didn't stick to the arrangement. I apologise and admit that I forgot about the arrangement after my own hospitalisation, my father's hospitalisation, his subsequent passing away, my mother's hospitalisation. It was a crazy time. Now, on the 20th of January my wifi is switched off yet again. I don't have the energy to even phone them, I wish I can just change service providers! Looks like my working from home will have to be put on hold until I get my salary on the 83rd of January...
