Wrongful invoicing and weak service
Earlier in this year (March/ April 2018) I requested an ADSL line be installed from Telkom at my home in Potchefstroom. It was my idea to install the line and then use a different service provider for the actual data. I contacted Telkom's call centre beforehand and they informed me the service for an ADSL line would be R200 per month. I then went to the branch in Potchefstroom at the West Acres mall (the branch is now closed). There I requested the same and was verbally reassured that the service would be R200 per month. I then signed all the paperwork and left.
About a week later (roughly the end of March) the technician gave me a call and wanted to install the internet line. He had the wrong address but my name added to the address (which was close by). I then agreed that he come to our house and he installed the line ( ********** 154). My wife informed him that the address he had was wrong and gave him the correct address so he could inform Telkom about it. The first invoice I received from Telkom totalled the amount of R582.71 for the first month (April). It entailed details on the invoice that stated DSL Fast and Telkom Evening W/Ender Plan. I have never heard about this evening plan in my life! I have received similar invoices monthly ever since amounting to roughly R400 per month which I refused to pay from the start. The address on every invoice from the start has been wrong which also begs the question: is this account even my own at all?
I then logged a complaint via a lengthy and detailed email about my situation (Ref: ********** 9) at the 30th of May 2018. According to customer services it should've been resolved in 5 to 10 working days. They also informed me that, in the meanwhile, I should cancel the account online. This I tried like they said: register, go to the manage accounts section and then cancel the subscription. I registered but then the 'manage accounts' as well as the 'manage subscriptions' tabs stated that no account was registered in my name. No contact was made until 5 July when I followed up telephonically on the complaint. The operator said that the matter has not yet been resolved and that it would be moved up as "a high priority case".
I have left the case alone ever since but have continued receiving invoices from them monthly which now amounts to R3032.06 in arrears. This account is now the reason I am unable to finance a bond to buy a house. My credit record has been severely affected by an account that should have been resolved months ago.
