Whole new level of useless

Just when you hope that things have improved at Telkom, disappointment comes along to kick you in the rear end.

For two weeks of this month (November) I have been without wifi. No one's been able to tell us what the problem is. One day, the internet is working perfectly, the next the line is down.

When the line first dropped, I was told that it might have to do with the weather (major rains in the second week of November). I accepted that. Telkom can't control the weather, and I was willing to wait until things had cleared up. By the Thursday of that week, the skies had cleared up but the problem with the ADSL had not. Phoned Telkom again, and this time someone agreed to log a fault.

Then began the waiting game. By Saturday, a technician arrived, only he said that he wasn't able to fix the problem. Apparently the modem was unable to reset, so he suggested we get a new one.

Fine, no problem. I head to my nearest Telkom store which is at Kolonade Retail Park. The extremely unhelpful young lady told us that they had no stock, and suggested we go to Menlyn. We go to Menlyn, and they have the same problem.: no stock. I'm advised to go to the New World store which I did. R1000 later, I come back to the Telkom store. A very helpful young man sorted me out, and sent me back home. At this point, I'm overjoyed.

For four days, everything works beautifully. Until Wednesday afternoon, when the line goes down AGAIN. I phone the helpline and another fault is logged. On Thursday morning, I get a call to tell me that a technician is on the way. I wait, I wait, I wait. Nobody arrives. I phone the helpline again, and am told that the person can see that there's a problem on the line and apparently a technician had been assigned assist me at one o'clock that afternoon. Fine.

Saturday morning, STILL no one has called to me know what's happening. I phone the unhelpful helpline again. That's when I'm told that the case hasn't been assigned to ANYONE. At that point I ask to speak to a manager in the hopes that SOMEONE can tell me what's going on. I speak to a man named Wesley, and at first, he's quite helpful. He promises to phone back and, much to my surprise, actually does so. He tells me that he'll make sure someone is assigned to my case and that I'll know what's happening by the time he leaves work (which was apparently to be around 16:30). Fine.

Four o'clock rolls around, and I've still heard nothing. We try calling Wesley back and we get no answer. It's now Monday, and I've spent over an hour on the phone with the Telkom helpline. Still no joy. I'm told a technician is going to come, but quite frankly, I'm not holding my breath for that.

What is it going to take to get Telkom to fix this?
