When telkom says their vows they mean it for eternity. You can never get divorced from telkom.
After being a telkom customer for a good 10 years, i moved towns, i requested from telkom that my current line be cancelled and moved to my new hometown, which it was moved. After some unforeseen circumstances i moved premesis again but this time to an area that didnt have telkom infrastructure, i requested that my line be cancelled and all my telkom services. I was sent emails and smses confirming my cancellation. A call centre agent even phoned me confirming it. After a year thinking everything was ok and cancelled. I looked at my credit rating and see that telkom has blacklisted me. I phone them up, they tell me i have 2 line rentals running concurrently and still active. I again request that they cancel, they tell me to pay first. Now a good period of time has passed, i dont live at those premesis anymore i havent received a single bit of data through a telkom network since, now i must pay because someone at telkom cant do their job. the amount outstanding was close to the amount that i paid for the deposit of the line, i requested that my deposit be used to offset that amount seeing as the nearest telkom direct store which i was told would reimburse my deposit was more than 200 km away, it would be non beneficial to me to drive all that way just to fetch petrol money to go all the way back. I asked for the offset and requested a new balance, which i never got. Fast forward another year, now i get smses from a shady debt collection agency Nudebt management saying i owe telkom 20000, i request the invoice, the line was never ever cancelled, other people have moved in and out of that place and have been using that line and internet at free will. I requested telkom to please sort it out, i forwarded emails photos, screenshots of my evidence of me requesting the cancellation and still i get the same messages, it has been escalated. If it was escalated then this problem should have been sorted out by now given how big telkom is. But i think people are busy playing on an escalator rather than sorting out this problem. Im unable to phone telkom anymore, i have no landline or access to one, so i have to make do with cellphone, my last call to telkom cost me 150 rand airtime, waiting in line which i eventually gave up. I requested from their facebook page that they call me when they have a solution, im still waiting. The facebook admin for that group has been far more efficient than telkom themselves. Why is it so hard to cancel a line with telkom, but everyone else in the country you can cancel with just a phone call. Because of all this, im unable to open an account anywhere. If i wanted to start a business id also be *****ed. Their incompetancy is indirectly causing people to not earn an income, go hungry or even get employment. One thing i also would like to know is why was the account still active even after non payment, when i was using the line the account would be cut pending payment if i was just 3 days over. But this line ran uninterupted for almost 2 years.
