What must one do to get action from Telkom?
My 92 year old father lives on his own and is very dependent on his phone service. He has been a loyal customer of Telkom for most of his life and has never failed to pay his bills. On the 28th of March I contacted Telkom on his behalf as we found that his telephone was not working. The call centre was quite professional the first time I called and advised me that there was a cable fault in the area. I received no feedback for a number of days at which point I phoned every day , waited for up to 15 minutes on my cellphone for the call centre to answer. Each time the call centre staff fielded my enquiry in a professional manner, but then proceeded to disregard the information I gave them ie. don't phone my father, phone me as he struggles to answer his cellphone or don't phone me today as I am attending a course and cannot answer calls. At one point the consultant advised me that they don't have a number for the technicians (when they failed to arrive at the promised times). I had one call from a technician or supervisor of technicians who seemed extremely sincere and swore that he would send someone to attend to the problem. No-one came. The fault was logged as resolved without the service being restored. I had to log a new fault. During my numerous expensive cellphone calls I explained, begged, cried and later shouted as my frustration grew. Last night I got a call from a lady asking that I check that the modem is on? And my 92 year old father remains without a telephone service. May I just add that the consultant who logged my second fault report also told me that there was a cable fault. The staff in the Telkom shop in Herm**** (where I went out of desperation)were friendly, but they only deal with sales?! It would seem there is no internal communication in Telkom between the various sections and whilst the staff have been taught how to field calls and even handle upset customers ACTION is required. The fault needs to be fixed and please don't ask me if there is anything else you can help with when you have not attended to my original request for 16 days !!! To be fair there were Public Holidays and weekends during this period and I made allowances for this, but surely you should be able to attend to a fault within a day or two? And surely you should communicate with the client continuously if you are unable to respond for whatever reason.
