What is the use of a 10Mbps line?

We are renting a house from someone and the house has a 10Mbps line installed. Since we moved in there (about two months ago) I organised 10Mbps uncapped internet with MWeb. From the start we never got internet speeds even close to 10Mbps. We are extremely lucky if we reach speeds above 5Mbps, but mostly we have to accept speeds between 2Mbps and 3Mbps. At times it gets so bad that the speed is below 0.5Mbps when I have to contact MWeb to restart everything on their side. Every time I contact MWeb, the person helping me confirms that the line seems to be extremely unstable and intermittent and advises me to get a Telkom technician out.

I logged the issue with Telkom about 4 times now. They either send me an SMS to say that the issue has been resolved or the problem gets ignored altogether. The last issue I logged (816CRK030517) is still pending after 10 days. I do, however, get a courtesy SMS every once in a while to say that the fault is in hand with the technical repair division. Yet no technician shows up. How long must I still wait?

I am certain that the problem lies with the actual line and not the router, because each time it rains we can forget about any sort of internet access whatsoever and the actual telephone is dead. We pay monthly for the service we expect from Telkom, so get the problem sorted out now please!

Thank you Tumelo,

The problem has to get solved. It bothers me a bit though that no technician was at our home yet. Yet I received another SMS stating that the problem was restored.
