What do I have to do to get service.

My internet is dead - time to make the dreaded call to Telkom call centre.

2 x 30min later and I have not managed to talk to anyone yet as they are experiencing high call volumes.

I post a complaint here and get a reference number, but no-one calls me or do anything to solve the issue.

So I try logging a fault through the SMS system - get a reference number, but no-one calls me or do anything to solve the issue.

Yesterday I wait for 45 min and eventually get through to a call centre person - they try to reset the port, but the line is still dead (not router error). I demand to talk to supervisor, but remain VERY polite - she promises me someone will have a look at it today. I stress that I have been without a connection for a while and am paying for a 4meg uncapped line (the horror of trying to get a refund :-(.

Today - nobody has called me yet. Telkom has the perfect model. Create a monopoly with help from state (i.e. tax payers money), stress that all you do is provide best effort. If things go wrong ensure that people cannot get hold of you. Can't wait for Neotel in my area - can't be worse than Telkom. Even ESKOM does not make me pay for electricity I don't have.
