Waterproof Phone NOT so WATERPROOF

Unfortunately this is a BAD REVIEW . My Fiance bought me a Huawei Mate 40 Pro, on a 36months contact at Telkom, about 4 months ago.

On the 27th Dec 2021 my phone got wet because it was in my jean pocket when i had to jump in the pool to get a child out. I was in the pool for about 20 seconds if not less also it was like a meter deep at my point of entry.

Now bare in mind this is the Huawei Matr 40 Pro their flagship phone that have a IP68 rating ( this means its Splash , Water and Dust Resistant) this is the heighest waterproof rating as the phone can be submerged into water up to 1.5m dept for 30 minutes...

So now you can Imagen my surprise when my phone's screen just made flickering green light on the screen and died.

30 Dec 2021 - me and my fiance took the phone into Telkom Express in N1 City mall where Riaan adviced us to take the phone to a Huawei store ,as they dont have onsite technician, and we should bring them the qoute.

02 Jan 2022 - we booked the phone in at Huawei Somerset West Mall.

03 Jan 2022 (Today) - my fiance recieved a mail from Huawei Somerset West, its Water Damage and repair cost is R15 282.99 . Just to make a Clear a Waterproof Phone that have water damage in about maximum 30seconds. (And no the phone wasn't insured as we've been paying insurance forpre then 3 years on my previous phone with no claim ever - its on their record.)

So I phoned Huawei Somerset West Mall and told them the phone wasnt in the water that long or in the deep end. Quewin assured me that they can't determine that and I should go back to Telkom where we "Bought" the phone.

My fiance mailed Riaan as requested, at Telkom Express the qoute of R15 282.99 and he send a short mail back that its not manufacturer problem. So I phone him and asked him whats going on. Only to hear his Manager Rodger says they don't cover water damages, (BUT THEY SELL WATERPROOF PHONES) this is a clear violation of consumer right act no9 _ "RIGHT TO ACCOUNTABILITY FROM SUPPLIERS"

So because Huawei Somerset West couldnt determine how long or deep the phone was in water it sure state my case that this is a Manufacturer problem. Please Help!!!!! My only option is to stop paying, theres 32months left on the 36 month contract. R699pm x 32 = R22 368.00

YOU DO THE MATH!!!!
