Waste of time with false hopes

I app**** for a Telkom contract online, minutes later I get a call from a consultant who asked me a bunch of questions and after waiting for her response, she informed me that due to my credit score we cannot proceed with the application as I was 1% short of what their mandate requires for online application. She then informed me that I am then required to go to a branch (with the necessary docs) and they would be able to process my application. I did as she asked, and when I got to a branch I spent what seemed to be an hour with the consultant (system freezing and all of those excuses he kept telling me) only to be told that my application "has to be sent" to wherever they approve applications. After asking the consultant what that means, he informs me not to worry it's just standard procedure and within 3 working days my application would be approved. After all of that, on the 3rd working day I am met with an email telling me I cannot afford a R600 contract on a +/-R10k net salary. How does Telkom's system work and why would they waste my time and build my hopes up like that only to be met with a slap on the face.

Your entire process is a waste of time.
