WARNING ABOUT TELKOM ADSL LINES
I run a small company from home and have been without internet for more than 2 weeks. Despite repeated reporting of the fault by phone and via Twitter, only one useless technician was sent. After visiting my premises he said he was going a box nearby to reset something and would call back to find out if it was working. Needless to say he never phoned, the internet connection is still not working but he reported back that the problem had been resolved. I have had an IT technician over who confirmed that there is no problem with my internet service provider, nor my routers or cables and that it is clearly a Telkom problem. Telkom blame everyone else but are doing nothing to fix the problem. I am inclined to believe the story my internet provider told me that Telkom have a policy not to fix broken ADSL lines in areas where FTTH is being installed. The problem is that may still take months or years for FTTH to be installed. This is a warning to anyone taking out an ADSL contract, especially a long term one, with any service provider that is reliant on Telkom. The line won't be repaired and you will be left with the commitment to pay for service you can't get.
