Useless service and customer care.
On the 8th of September 2018 I made the HUGE mistake of taking out a contract with Telkom. I have always used Vodacom as my service provider and not once had an issue with their services or customer care but Telkom had a good deal on an iPhone and I thought why not. I went into the Umhlanga branch and sat with one of the staff members who was extremely helpful, answering all my questions and concerns - my biggest worry being that I would be able to keep my number as I have only ever had one cellphone number. He explained it's a very simple procedure to port the number across to Telkom and that it will be sorted in 48hrs. Cool. I took the contract, received the new iPhone, waited for the number to port so that I could set up my apps and that's when the trouble started. Telkom ported the number halfway and then managed to ***** it up so now I make/receive calls with one number and send/receive sms's on another - because of this I cannot receive OTP or move over all my apps to one phone. Now I have two phones, one for Whatsapp, FNB app etc...and the other for calls and messaging - having to use the one phone as a hotspot every time I need to access the other.
I have been in and called Telkom numerous times since, received multiple case numbers and then been notified that the case has been resolved when it clearly has NOT been dealt with. The latest case number being ********** 9. Three months later this has not been resolved.
Besides that, staff are friendly and seem helpful but do not actually get anything done. Phone calls are *******, the line drops or I forever have no service so that making/receiving calls impossible. I live in Durban, one of South Africa's main cities, not in an undeveloped area where cellphone reception may be a problem.
My advice to anyone considering using Telkom for a phone contract is use Vodacom instead.
