************ TeleSales
An overzealous Telkom telesales agent phoned my 86 year old father and sold him an upgrade to his ADSL (from 20Gb to a 50Gb cap and a 4Mb to a 10Mb line). He neither needed nor understood this as my mother uses the line only occasionally to download email. This cost an additional R300/month.
When he showed me his bill, I immediately organised for the account to be downgraded.
The following bill showed an amount of R1368.17 for contract forfeiture!
I phoned the Call Centre on his behalf, and they said that they could only deal with him directly. He is currently in hospital and is unlikely to be able to handle the complexities of dealing with this issue via Call Centre soon, if ever.
So the result is that I have had to pay the forfeiture amount on his behalf, otherwise Telkom will cut off the phone. I doubt that we are likely to have any recourse, as he won't be capable of dealing with the Call Centre for some time.
I believe that Telkom have been ********* in selling a facility that their client did not need, punishing the client for subsequently cancelling it and then making it difficult to resolve on his behalf.
