Unsatisfactory (or basically no) service

So, what do you do when you have no option but to go to a service provider who you KNOW beforehand will not "come to the party" with the request that you know you need to make. We recently decided to investigate the various options available to us for wifi at home ... living in an area that has no fibre, no LTE, and no 4G coverage, we basically had no option but to go to Telkom for ADSL. Because of wanting the "personal assurance" that we could have this done and dusted in the least possible time, i intentionally didn't apply for the service online (oh, by the way, we DO have a existing telkom line - it would merely need to be converted to ADSL). So duly done and in early August of this year i app**** for the "unlimited / uncapped home ADSL option". After explaining that we had an existing line that would merely need to be converted, we were told that there was no issue and that the service would be provided to us between 7 and 10 working days. Benefit of the doubt given and we waited 11 days ... no contact, no confirmation, no visit from a Telkom technician and also no installation ... nothing. So we call ... we are told that because we want the wifi router included (which we had indicated in our initial request) - a 24 month contract needs to be signed. Fine, we have no problem (we do all the telephonic credit checks and balances and bobs your uncle - or so we thought). So, albeit what we expect to be a short delay as credit vetting is to be done (on an account holder who has been the SAME account holder on the very same land line in excess of 35 years) we wait, and we wait ... no feedback, no nothing. So another call ... first the request "can't" be found in the system (but we have a reference number), then its found but nobody knows whats going on (Telkom will investigate) ... we get told to wait and that before the end of the week we will receive an sms notifying us when the installation can be done. Another week goes by ... still nothing, so yet another call ... same old, same old ... and we wait, and we wait ... and another call (by now we are calling from both my side and that of my mother - who happens to be the very account holder in excess of 35 years remember). Oh yes, lets not talk about the duration you have to hold onto the line before you have it attended to listening to some pre-recording that gets quite irritating after the 2nd minute (not nice when you have to hold on for like 30 minutes if not longer). So, with her not being able to hold on for ever in a day, she makes the necessary requests to allow me to conduct on her behalf (although she too continues to make calls where possible) - being a pensioner and only recently being exposed to social media / smart phones etc. she didn't know much about the whole wifi thing in the first place. So after yet another few day wait we make another call - surprisingly that on one single day, she gets told that the credit vetting has been done and the installation will be completed within the next couple of days, i get told the credit vetting is in progress and will now be escalated as nobody can give us any answers. Still nothing ... so 4 days later another call ... we are again told that we will receive an sms by the end of the week ... Friday comes and Friday goes ... no sms, no contact, and still no installation. Yesterday (10/10/17) my mom calls yet again, only to be told that the credit vetting is STILL in progress and that there is no further feedback. What happened to the escalation that i was promised last week? The supervisor / manager who was supposed to find out what was happening promising that we would receive feedback by the end of the week (3 days ago). This is now a new week ... its Wednesday already ... after yesterday's call (which probably makes this in excess of 8 or 10 calls between the two of us) we still have no idea whether we will EVER be getting this WIFI. Come on Telkom ... if this the service delivery PRIOR to the final signing of a 24 month contract and the wifi installation (which by the way is a mere R599 per month) then what type of service delivery are we to expect after the installation is done (if it ever will be). It would seem that our 2nd option is now to approach Vodacom / Cell C / MTN on offers for a "portable wifi modem" ... If we were new customers to Telkom then i might have understood this entire delayed process, but the mere fact that she has been the account holder for over 35 years (and diligently pays her account each month) i am most disappointed.

Good day Tumelo ... thank you for taking the time to respond to my complaint. The service is no longer required and i have as of last Friday cancelled the request (for which we have waited almost 3 months) ... i am most disappointed but will know in future. We have now gone to Vodacom ...
