Unsatisfactory ADSL speed and Telkom resolution.
Since the start of my ADSL contract in April 2018, I have repeatedly contacted Telkom and logged queries in regards to slow internet speed. I have a 10mbps uncapped line and paying good money each month for the service. I have never missed a payment and I have never reached the FUP cap. My query is always the same, why am i experiencing slow speeds, particularly during peak times? Noting the expected congestion on the lines during peak hours, Telkom has repeatedly advised me that i should never experience speeds lower than 5.5mbps during peak times. I am however experiencing slower than said speeds and sometimes its not even peak times. Each time I log a query, I get the same story from the operator. "They need to log query with their technical department, they will test the line or send a technician to my premises." I have had technicians numerous times on my premises, never during peak hours. They do a couple of tests, reset and then tell me to monitor for a few days which i do. The problem then starts again. I am aware that the number of users connected and live streaming also effect the speed of the line. I have checked the speeds with users connected as well as no users connected. With no users connected I still experience slow speeds. Telkom has changed the Port, checked the exchange and everything else, yet there is still no constant / settling improvement. I have even sent the query to the escalation department. 2 weeks ago I got a call from a technicians who ran through the usual and said they would come back to me. I am still waiting. In seeking alternative solutions, I inquired with Telkom about moving my service from an ADSL line to their wireless service. I was told that I can go to wireless but my ADSL contract would need to be cancelled which would incur penalty charges for myself. The penalty charge would be my normal monthly fee multip**** by the remaining months of the contract. This is NOT a penalty, this is a settling of the contract upfront, for a service that wont be used. What kind of penalty / option is that????? I was also advised that the only other way for Telkom to cancel my contract was if they received a report from a technician stating that they were unable to resolve the problem and provide the service I required. In querying with the technical department on obtaining this Technician report, I was told that they don't know what report I am referring to nor where to obtain it. So now I'm stuck paying for a service that is NOT being fully given to me with no way to remedy, move or cancel the service without it costing me more than it already has. As stated, I am paying for a 10mbps uncapped line and of late, these are the speeds I am experiencing.... 12-09-18 @20:48 = 0.58mbps, @20:54 = 0.79mbps. 13-09-18 @06:08 = 3.98mbps @ 19:32 = 1.05mbps. 14-09-18 @ 07:06 = 0.23mbps, @ 21:09 = 0.61mbps. 16-09-18 @ 21:49 = 2.92mbps. 17-09-18 @21:56 = 2.35mbps. 21-09-18 @20:19 = 0.01mbps, 20:23 = 0.03mbps. 24-09-18 @ 11:53 = 0.37mbps, @15:14 = 0.06mbps, @17:55 = 2.04mbps. 25-09-18 @ 17:47 = 1.38mbps, 26-09-18 @ 14:30 = 2.20mbps, @16:59 = 1.03mbps. 27-09-18 @ 14:20 = 3.59mbps. 30-09-18 @14:05 = 2.57mbps. As you can see, I have been monitoring as close as possible.
Kindly assist myself in the resolution of this matter. If Telkom cannot resolve or provide an alternative then at least cancel the contract without it costing me as it already is costing me for a service NOT fully provided.
In closing, it is so frustrating to struggle for so many months with Telkom on this matter yet i am expected to pay in full regardless of my satisfaction with the service. One - sided contract. Unacceptable.
