Unrealistic Data charges and contract agreement LTE router packages
Good day. I trust someone can clarify and explain the HUGE amount of data usage on the LTE wifi router.
I opened an account with telkom on 13 April 2018, the LTE-A 60 GB anytime data and 60 GB Night surfer data = 120GB with router B618. I received the pro rata amount in that first month as it was already almost halfway into the month. However I noticed that after only 5 days all the data were used, over 37GB. This was just testing it out, with a little bit of you tube streaming not more than 4 hours in total over a 5 day period. I logged a call and only after a "MONTH" finally had a consultant getting back to me.
This was my reference number ********** 0.... The consultant said in the new month you will receive your full 120GB data and it should make a difference have all your data. This doesn't make sense as the BIG Question is how many GIGs am I being charged per hour. (As per Netflix for 1 hour of streaming in standard definition you looking at 1GB and in High Definition 3GB for 1 hour) and Youtube uses up to 12MB per minute that is less than 7GB per month if I watch 30min of youtube per day.
(the consultant could not explain why the charges are that high as per my data usage report it shows over 14GB used in just a matter of a few hours. and then another 7GB 2 days later in one day.
The consultant pointed out the following...
1. I have to download a Huawei Hilink App, this app will show me who is linked to the WIFI and also exactly the amount of data used on the go by user.
2. The Huawei modem is unable to determine between night time and day time usage. Therefore any midnight background updates will be done automatically from the day time available data. IN ORDER FOR ME TO USE THE NIGHT SURFER DATA I will have to switch the modem off at midnight (12am) and then switch it back on in order for the modem to use the night surfer data. If I don't do this it will continue to use the day time data.
LETS RECAP: If I go to bed at 9pm I will have to set my alarm for 12am, quickly disturb my sleep, wake up to go and switch my modem off and back on again so that I can use the night time WIFI....this I only have to do for 2 years while I have the contract, ****** Fantastic!!!...The sales consultant at Telkom agreed that that would be my best solution. HOW ON EARTH CAN TELKOM SELL THIS PRODUCT AND NOT DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION BEFOREHAND. HOW can Telkom expect anyone that buys into this product to give up a proper sleep pattern every night for 2 years to be able to get the WIFI promised at the time of purchase.???
JUNE 1st new data loaded. Today is the 7th......41.37GB USED ALREADY... in 6 days !!!?????
On the 2 June - Full movie streamed on netflix 2 hours. On the 3rd - 30min episode streamed on Netflix. On the 4th - 20 min of streaming and then the movie was switched off, just testing what I will be charged.
THE NEXT DAY 5th I saw all the day time usage used up and now going into the recurring day time available.
For the rest of the time no movies, no streaming no downloads. . Only emails from my laptop only with a little bit of check up on fb pages and instagram, just quick check ins.
Calling Telkom today, the same story as per above.
The last thing as well is that the Telkom mobile app is not working, it gives incorrect data and most of the time unable to download your usage. Why can't I see exactly where the data is going to? The Huawei Hilink App is also not giving any sensible information other that my mobile and PC is connected.
Telkom there is something wrong here, this is not a fair agreement! I cannot trace at all where the data is going to. As per the calculations and based on rates charged per minute on various networks 60GB should be more than sufficient for the whole month. I have given a break down of my usage for June above and for that it cost me 41GB already, unreal?
I cannot accept this and trust that you have a different solution on all the points raised above.
Regards Johan
