Unfair debit collections and charges

Dear Sir/Madam,

Complaint: Unfair Collections

1. My agreed debit date with Telkom is the 20th of the month. 2. My debit on the 20th of Dec 2025 for an amount of R1072.55 was not provided for due to financial constraints at the time. 3. On the 31st of Dec 2025 Telkom collections debited me for the arrear instalment of R1072.55. according to my bank statement it went through on 2nd January 2026, obviously considering the holidays. 4. On the 15th of January 2026 there was an attempted debit of R2362.81. this was not provided for as this was not my agreed instalment or date of debit. I then queried this as below. I now had to pay charges from the bank of R178 and R115 and you also would have charged me for a rejected fee, not sure what were your charges. 5. I believe there was a small credit issued and I was then debited on 23rd January 2026 for R968.45. This was a figure by Telkom not me. 6. Therefore according to me my account should have been up to date as of January. If there was any other arrear amount for whatever charges etc. this should have been debited by yourself as you handed me to collections or you should have notified me that my account is still in arrears for whatever reason. This was not the case. 7. I then get debited on the 14th of February 2026 for an amount of R1422.12. according to me there was sufficient funds in my bank account on that day as I transferred R1500 on the 12 February 2026. However I was not aware that I was going to be debited on the 14th by Telkom. I’m still off the understanding that I get debited on the 20th of the month. 8. Well the debit for the 14th Feb returned I then get charged bank unpaid fees of R115 and my phone gets terminated. 9. On calling your call centre I am now told that because my account is with collections there is no set debit date. My complaint is that Telkom did not inform me that this has fallen away and that collections will debit me whenever they choose to, which seems to be the case as they should not debit my account if there is no funds available, especially over a weekend, 14th was a Saturday.

I therefore request clarity on this matter and would like all my bank charges refunded to me as I was not informed that I am in arrears and handed over to collections and in turn they will debit me whenever they feel like it. I have been unfairly treated as a loyal customer and my services were terminated without notification or an opportunity to rectify the matter.

I today was told that the arrears is R322.81 and if I pay this my services will be re-instated. When I queried what the amount was for, I was told the charges, I queried why was this not collected with the debit instalments but I got no explanation.

I am very aggrieved by the manner in which Telkom is treating a very long standing customer.

I expect restitution and a detailed explanation. I also expect my debit order date to be returned to the 20th of the month or I should be notified that I will be debited on a different day when money is in my account.
