Unfair billing despite been advised on what to do by a Telkom Consultant

In March my mother contacted Telkom to inform them that we were to move to a new property and that we would like to continue with our Telkom landline so the line must be moved to the new property.

Ok firstly they took forever to get the process going and when phoned again it was explained that the issue wasn't logged properly, so it was logged again.

We moved in at the end of March and approximately a month later, end of April a technician came out and advised that it was not possible to commence as the property required a new line, after one month of waiting it took then 2min to make this decision.

In all this time the line was not in service.........

Also at the end of April we received a bill that was due for payment. I contacted the customer care line and explained what the issue was and asked how was it that I still had a bill despite the line not been in use for more than a month as well as that we were still waiting for the line to be re-installed. The response I received was, they understand and agree and that I must not make payment up until the line is in service again and then Telkom will send through a revised bill and we shall continue from there.

I asked for a reference number for the call but was told that there isn't a reference number however that on the system the relevant information was captured and is available.

Last week the line was suspended, today my Mum goes into a branch to query the issue and is told that we in arrears because of non-payment.

How can this be a non-payment issue when we did exactly as advised by a Telkom consultant......? Not to mention that the line was not in use for more than a month of which was legally terminated as per requested.

I refuse to pay the bill until I get someone with the proper authority to have to make decisions.

This is really unfair and I demand answers!
