********* and misleading advertising of Telkom Mobile

We were due to upgrade our cell phones, and I checked the Telkom online shop for deals. I came across the Samsung J6 and I liked the specs and price, it suited our needs perfectly.

The problem arose, when the advertised specs, and the actual phone on offer at the stores, are actually two completely different models of the Samsung J6 series. The specs on offer on the official Telkom website clearly shows the model with 4gig RAM and 64gig on-board memory, the one they offered was a 3gig RAM with a 32gig on-board memory. Keeping in mind, I drove approximately 30 kilometres from Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth, for this specific phone according to the specs promised online.

After being argued with by the staff at the Telkom store at Baywest Mall for quite sometime. I showed them on the GSM arena website, the very specific differences between the two models and the one they offered on their website. They then put me in contact with the online sales department of Telkom.

Once again, I was being argued with regarding the model type online is exactly the same as what they are offering. Their argument is that the free 32gig SD card makes up the difference, but yet cannot answer me why the difference in RAM. After trying to prove that a model with 4gig RAM with a 32gig on-board memory, does not exist, they just went on and on about the SD card making up the difference.

The Telkom website clearly shows a Samsung Galaxy J6 with 4Gigs RAM and 64Gigs on-board memory, which very very clearly implies a similar but different model of the same phone. I do believe that this is very *********, misleading and deceptive advertising on Telkom's behalf. I do believe that Telkom should be held accountable for this and I'm almost sure there are advertising laws that prohibit this kind of deception and ********* behaviour.

I have sought advice from a key account manager of a competitor company, and this person immediately saw the fault in the advertising and the phone they supposedly offered me. This person also completely agreed regarding the ********* and misleading advertising of the Telkom marketing team.

I hope someone at Telkom who is knowledgeable and is able to help me, sees this complaint, and restores my faith in this company.

Reviewer Update
I have made it a priority to check the Telkom adverti*****t every day, and my suspicions were justified when I saw today that Telkom has updated their advert regarding the memory capacity of the aforementioned device on offer. This, in my understanding, is an admission of guilt. Fortunately I have made three screengrabs of the original advert, two on my laptop and one on my phone. But what's even more concerning, is that these changes has been made without them even contacting me or making an attempt to resolve the issue. I am still waiting for a reply from Telkom regarding this complaint.
