Uncooperative Demeanour

Last year I experience a ‘crackling noise’ with my landline at home. After I have reported, the fault was taken almost 3 or more weeks if my memory serves me right to get any response from Telkom despite of my regular calls to resolve my issue. This problem not only affected my voice service but also due to the severer noise affected my internet ADSL use as the quality of service was very poor. Eventually Telkom decided the grace us with their presence with a technician that although he made several visits to identify where the problem was he concluded that the issue was between the cable entering my kitchen and another point before continued to the rest of the house. He then said that was unable to determine what was the route of the cable entry from outside into the house and the only solution was to install telephone cable between the two points on the kitchen floor. I did mention to him that that was contrary to normal quality of workmanship I did appreciate his effort that he wanted to provide me with a service so that was the only option. Additionally I did reiterate to him that we would again experience an issue because the solution he offered was really a temporary solution. I believe the technician sent to us at the time lack of understanding how to troubleshoot the issue and expected myself to provide him with a solution. This in my view is contrary to any business ethics and reputation of the company i.e. Telkom.

Early January 2017 I experience the same issue with a noise on my telephone line prohibit me the use of the landline to make calls but also due to the noise the ADSL model was unstable, therefore internet connection was intermittent. After logging the fault, the new technician determined that this time around, the fault extended from the entry point in the kitchen towards the main central box of Telkom and also towards the Telkom exchange. After correcting the problem the new technician mentioned that the cable that the previous technician installed was not according to the standards, therefore he must come back, remove the cable, and provide a better solution.

Today ( January 16, 2017) the same technician that first attended to the problem he back and he said that he was instructed by his manager to come and remove the cable and provide a different more professional solution to my problem. During his visit, I noticed again that he was reluctant to see how he can trace how the cable enters my home. He said that Telkom is not responsible for any of the cables inside the house and that I should bring an electrician to start breaking down the floor of the kitchen so a new pipe gets installed so the lay-down a new cable. I then mentioned to him that the house I bought already as currently stands, therefore all the cable ducting etc. was installed then so if the cable inside now is causing the issue how can he expect me to renovate my kitchen so he can resolve my problem. This clearly demonstrates the lack of basic understanding how to troubleshoot issues as well lack of technical understanding. What is more outrageous is that the manager of this technician instructed him to remove the outside cable and leave my home without offering any further assistance.

I am extremely disappointed with this level of unprofessional and ********* behaviour from TELKOM as well disgusted with the level of technical knowledge of the technician TELKOM is employing. If I had not paid my fees even for one (1) day, they will have interrupted my service without any notice. Now that they have left me without any resolution and also without any service voice or internet what should be my reaction as their customer. I am of the opinion that TELKOM should reconsider the quality of service their offer to their customers or closed-down their operations. I am highlight dissatisfied and I demand an immediate resolution.

Good day Mr Moenieb,

Thank you for attending and responding to my issue. Unfortunately, the same technician called me late this afternoon and he said that I need to renovate my kitchen so Telkom can run new cable. This is unacceptable and I demand a more and immediate professional resolution. Clearly, they are demonstrating that the technician and his manager they are not following ethical and professional business practices therefore either they should both be reprimanded or dismissed from their duties.

They are causing a reputational damage to TELKOM.

I trust that this issue is attended with the highest priority and severity.

Kind Regards

K.Maliakas

Good again Mr Moenieb,

I just want to inform you that this morning I received am SMS on my phone saying the following:

'Dear customer your report with reference number 707CRK110117 was restored. If the problem exists, please contact Telkom on 10210 for Residential or 10217 for Business Services. Alternatively use http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/contactus/emailsus&formld= ********** 128175. Please don’t reply to this SMS. Telkom. TIME 8:02'.

I cannot understand the audacity firstly of Telkom technician and his manager to do this and secondly and most importantly Telkom to send this message when your *********** technician and his manager are very aware that I have no VOICE SERVICE and ADSL service. I DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL of these two individuals from Telkom. If I do not receive a call today from Telkom ensuring an amicable resolution to my issue I will have no other option but to take matters further using the LEGAL route for consumer protection.

Looking forward to your response and IMMEDIATE action to resolve the problem.
