Unauthorized contract cancellation.
I am extremely disappointed with Telkom's handling of my accounts and customer service.
I initially contacted Telkom to dispute debit order fees that had been charged to my account. During one of my calls, I asked about the cancellation process and what the costs would be if I chose to cancel my fixed-term contract. At no point did I instruct Telkom to cancel my contract, nor did I state that I could not afford it.
To my surprise, my contract was subsequently terminated without any written notification, confirmation of cancellation, or opportunity to verify the alleged request. The first communication I received regarding the termination was an invoice demanding more than R10,000 in settlement fees.
What makes this situation even more concerning is that when I called Telkom on Monday to enquire about and dispute the R10,000 settlement invoice, I later discovered that my SIM-only contract had also been cancelled. This was a plan that I have maintained since 2022, and once again, I did not request its cancellation.
I find it alarming that simply enquiring about charges on my account appears to have resulted in services being terminated without my authorisation and without any prior communication.
I have requested the call recordings, agent notes, and the contractual basis for both cancellations, as I dispute that I ever authorised them. Consumers should be able to query billing issues, dispute charges, and ask about cancellation costs without having those enquiries treated as instructions to terminate their contracts.
I am currently pursuing a formal dispute and have requested that Telkom provide evidence supporting their actions. Until such evidence is produced, I remain deeply concerned about the lack of transparency, accountability, and communication in the handling of my accounts.
After years as a customer, this experience has left me questioning Telkom's customer service standards, billing practices, and complaint resolution processes.
