Unable to cancel shocking service

I cancelled my Telkom internet services on 10 June 2024, due to it being extremely expensive & the internet constantly not working. I have been with Telkom for a number of years & after countless fault reports I made the decision to cancel the disappointing service.

I received a full month’s invoice in June, which I thought was fair as I was required to give 30 days notice. Fast forward to 11 July 2024, I receive another full month’s invoice (for 09 July until 08 August). I phoned Telkom’s cancellation department, which entails countless steps & waiting on the line before you can speak to someone. They confirmed to me that all of my services have been cancelled & advised that I will need to talk to the billing department, as they cannot advise / assist me with billing. Bear in mind that each phone call entails endless time going through steps & waiting on the call before you actually speak to anyone. When I finally got through to the billing department, they informed me that my cancellation hasn’t been finalised & I will need to speak to the cancellation department. When I explained that I already spoke to them & they confirmed that my services have been cancelled, Pamela Abrahams raised her voice, telling me that she does not work in cancellations & cannot help me. I need to speak to the cancellations department. She continued to speak over me & raising her voice. Needless to say, this is horrific service. She then transferred me once again to the cancellations department. After yet again going through countless steps & waiting on the phone, the cancellations department told me that they have technical issues & my cancellation has not been finalised. She said that the cancellation “might be finalised maybe next week.” This lady seemed confused by the date & kept confusing June & July. She eventually came to the conclusion that I cancelled on 10 June, which falls in the “next” billing period & since I gave 30 days notice (which she now informed me is only required if you cancel online & not if you cancel telephonically - how is the consumer supposed to know this?), I will need to pay the invoice for 09 July until 08 August. There is nothing they can do to assist me.

I am now left unsure whether my services / contract is in fact cancelled or not? And I am also unsure about how many months Telkom will continue to debit my account for services that I have cancelled a long time ago & definitely don’t want!!

I definitely would advise any & all to stay away from Telkom!!
