*****ULENT SIM SWAP BY EMPLOYEES

Over the weekend, someone *****ULENTLY performed a sim swap with my number. I live in Centurion and the Sim Swap was performed in Khayelitsha, Western Cape. It happened in broad day light, when I literally watched my network switch to “No Service” out of nowhere! I had previously read about something similar happening to someone and went to the Telkom store at Centurion Mall where they confirmed that someone had indeed done a sim swap 30 minutes prior. This is a gross violation of security! Had I not suspected I was experiencing what I had previously read about, and waited longer for my network to return, so much worse could have happened, involving everything that is linked to my phone number! Thankfully, the sales assistant at Telkom Centurion Mall, Katlego, assisted me in getting my number back, but how can one ensure that something like this does not happen again??? How can Telkom allow their employees to sim swap a stranger’s phone number without confirming their identity??? That is an inside job and that is *****! The people involved had the audacity to call me once I had gotten my number back! The employees and the beneficiary must be held to account and be ********ly charged if necessary!
