Treat pensioners fairly please Telkom

My parents are 94 and 90 respectively and live in an old age village.

Their telephone account is emailed to me. I received an email to say Telkom will be switching their landline from copper to fibre voice service. The email states that they will also be moved to a new voice plan at R299 a month.

Issue is that at the moment on their Telkom Closer plan costs R109 a month and with the weekender plan their total bill is R123.00 a month.

I called the Telkom call centre to say that this is completely unfair that they must now pay more than double and asked if there is a plan for pensioners on the fibre voice. I was told, No, the lowest plan is R299 a month. The agent said they can tell the technicians they want to stay on copper.

They told the technician when he turned up and he told them that is a problem as he is removing all copper in the area. Now their phone is just disconnected and not working.

Is this fair on pensioners Telkom? You want to save on copper theft buy have not plans for pensioners on state pensions?
